Topic: Here's What's Wrong With "Who Do You Like" Threads

So, every once in awhile somebody makes a thread that asks, "Who on Mingle really gets your sauce cookin'?" or some sort of inherently flawed metaphor/euphemism that might have actually seemed original back in 1322 A.D., but only because the word "Mingle' hadn't been invented yet.*

Anyway, my point is that whenever someone asks this kind of question, there are immediately 671 posts all saying basically the same thing: "There are too many to mention, and I don't want to leave anybody out."

Pshaw, I say.

Or: "Well, there is someone but I don't want to name names." Or "They know who they are."

Of COURSE they know who they are. That's not the issue. The issue is that the REST OF US don't know who they are, so why not just bite the bullet and SPILL, already?

Look, if you're turned on by so many people on this site that you can't list them all in one post, then make a second post later. And do something about that rash.

* Actually, it had, but was not used in the same sense we use it today. Prior to about 1500, a "mingle" was a small bird (finchus mingelius] known primarily for its yellow feathers and inability to fly without crashing into things. Sadly, the mingle went extinct about 1512 -- that last one having unfortunately flown into what scientists now believe was either a UFO or an extraordinarily nearby comet. Fragmentary reports from that era indicate that the mingle was often kept as a pet by town drunks and plague victims.

I always laugh when I read those threads and page after page say 'I'm not telling'.

My feelings aren't hurt that my name isn't ever mentioned, so I don't much worry if I unintentionally hurt someone by not naming them.

Of course there are going to be people that we forget, who don't immediately cross our minds. I don't have that much of an ego that it's going to be crushed because someone doesn't like me, and I would imagine that we're all adult enough to realize that we won't all be on everyone's list of favourites.

Personally, ever since I started posting in forums, only one guy ever caught my complete interest, not just on a romantic level. He's the wittiest person that I know and can get across entire paragraph, with feeling, in just a word or two: QMan love

There are all sorts of people whose posts I read with interest, either from an education standpoint and/or one of humour: Dan99, PinkLady, Heathersaygobucks, lillith and lily, waterloosunset, talldub, geniusboy, etrain, rskit, singmesweet, mr_music.

Of course, now I've drawn a blank and will have to make another post!

They don't wanna say a name, cause they are stringing more than one along and don't want to get caught.

Well it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.

But I MUCH prefer your old name and sometimes have to catch myself while I'm typing.

Awe!! What a cute bird!! The finchus mingelius sounds to me had a terrible life to live with drunks and all that jazz. Plus the last one to hit a UFO or comment. Shucks man. Terrible.

PS- Fly and I had each other's sauces boiling but both seemed to walk away a moment and now the pans are scortched. Awful mess.

I've learned that if I am interested in someone the threads would not be the place to announce it. Anyway, if you have enough gumption to say it out on the threads, why not e-mail? Those threads are only about informing other members that somebody likes me. Many times the OP is fishing.

here's the problem i find

that's when people do start naming names and then someone comes in saying "i guess i didn't make the list frown " or some crap like that and then they get what i call the Sympathy responds.

Yeah but she likes me more! haha

I think the 'who do you like?' threads are lame for the same reasons already mentioned. But also because i dont really care who likes who. Plus its none of my business.

I remember one that went on for about 46 pages and there were (I think) TWO actual posts where someone named a person they liked.

And the rest were "I don't want to leave anyone out" or "They know!" or one of the smileys with no text.

There are days I just want to make a post asking if anybody ever talked to that yummy Lyndsey girl who sits behind Jimmy in U.S. History....

They don't wanna say a name, cause they are stringing more than one along and don't want to get caught.

Ethical dilemma here -- on one hand, I think anyone who does that should be EXPOSED.

On the other hand, if they're dumb enough to get strung along, let 'em learn something from it. Assuming that's possible.
