a 10 year old approaches you and says Einstein thinks imagination is more important than knowledge, WHY ?

How do you respond?

Without imagination there would be no progress.

Because imagination can take you to places not yet explored thereby gaining knowledge. Then I'd kiss their cheek.

I would tell them he was absolutely right.

Without Imagination there would be no drive for knowledge.

Without imagination, you can't challenge current thought. You can't make new breakthroughs. You wouldn't have that spark that would lead you to new ideas, new thoughts, new discoveries, new science, new pathways.

"Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death."
-Albert Einstein

So I would recite the above quote to the 10 year old and tell him nice try, now back to your room and finish your homework BEFORE you even think about playing your Playstation 2.

If it's your kid be happy they are that smart to ask such a question at ten years old.. That is awesome... I would read up on Einstein brother... I would imagine that they can go hand and hand at times..

Another thought-Your imagination can be limited by your knowledge... Some people have great knowledge but little imagination.... but then again kids have great imagination but little knowledge.. That's a good question.. I would have to sit in contemplation on that one for more then the minute it took me to write this...

I know with imagination you can think of things that have not been thought and invent things not yet invented... You can't necessarily do that with peer knowledge... You have to think out of the box to invent.. so maybe that's what he meant??

imagination allows you to dream, knowledge allows you to obtain it if its possible, theres nothing to obtain if you dont imagine it first.....dare to dream..think ..my brain hurts...the sum total of both is even greater...

well if You think about it without imagination there would be no airplane, no rockets, no telephone, Ipod, etc.

if you think about it you can always ask Why ?

Next time someone asks you a question before you answer think of response and keep askng Why. Once you can no longer ask why, you have your answer, thus Imagination is essential to knowledge for without it nothing would exist.
