I adopted a cat a few weeks ago. He likes to lick my chin and my face. I have never had a cat do this before. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Probably licking your face lotion. For some reason they like it. Dogs like it also.

They learn from their Mom's to lick (groom) as a sign of affection...So the little guy is just showing you some love and letting you know that you are family...

I've had cats my entire life. and that is just one of the ways they show affection. sometimes you will get little love nips, but that usually only comes if they are napping on your lap and you move. when you get woken up in the morning by a pounce from dresser across the room, then you know that you are truly loved. have fun with your new pet

Mine would bite my chin....and hold on! It was crazy. I think of it as love nips...lol

My dearly-departed cat would do the kissy-kissy thing with me, too. He was just a very affectionate cat, though- no weird feline neuroses at all.

Identity crisis. Your cat thinks its a dog.

He starts to do the kneeding the dough thing and then starts licking my face. Yup. That's it. The "kneading dough" happiness exercise works up to the kisses. You're almost as good as a cat, now. And....you "belong" to the cat. They are usually careful about getting THAT attached to a person. |

My cat wakes me up every morning with a "kiss" to the face, sometimes to the mouth...

does your cat have any siamese in it??? I think so. When he meows it is a like a siamese. I think he is a mix. |

Some cats do, and some cats don't. But ask any vet, and he'll tell you that a cat's mouth is nowhere near as clean and germ-free as a dog's. An allergist told me once that most people who are allergic to cats, are actually allergic to the dander because cats are always grooming, licking themselves... and it is the saliva that causes the allergy.
I'm less apt to let a cat "kiss" me. But I have no qualms about a dog's "kiss". |

Just like rubbing up against you, its 'marking' you with its taste or scent.

Like others have said, a sign of affection and marking. I have had a cat that would lick my underarms after I am done axing the firewood. (eewww!). Anyway, I think it might have something to do with salts. |

he is grooming you
when they knead their paws it is a reflex from when they are kittens and they knead while they are suckling when a cat is kneading his paws you know he is relaxed and content |
