Marc Faber says:

The best bet for investors may be to buy a farm and escape from the cities, as a prolonged recession could lead to war, as the Great Depression did. If the global economy doesn’t recover, usually people go to war.

Jim Rogers says:

I expect to see social unrest, civil unrest in the United States a couple of years from now. Yes its changing the entire situation in the United States, the US is the largest debtor in the history of the world. There is a dramatic change taking place.

The world’s century is moving from the west to the east, to Asia and many people have not figured this out yet.

Yes, you are going to see a lot of turmoil in the United States in the next 3, 4, 5 years.

Faber already lives in Thailand. Rojers is moving.

Btw, did you know that in Thailand, the unreportable amount of a bank transaction is USD58000 ? Everywhere else, it is either 10000, like in US, or even lower!

Freedom is as freedom does.

Whose top two economists?

You would not consider them to be anywhere near the top. Don't worry. Listen to Mr. Helicopter Ben.

The title, "Two top economists say," is a little misleading then; isnt it?

Not unless you insist on calling the shots.

Not unless you insist on calling the shots.

So you mean if I say the right things I can be considered one of the top two economists?

Yes, why not, Fanta? I have no pre-considerations about you. Anyone can do the right thing. You ca do it too. You can become the top economist. I'd be blabbering around about how I knew you back when you didn't know much, but still did care.

But, you do need to know the right thing, though.

Arrrggghhh...

That wouldn't do it. I know you want to jump on your favorite horse, but Ron Paul isn't an economist. He is a politician. Who knows if he even believes in the things he says?

Better start with Rothbard.

Don't worry. Those are only ones that still believe this economy can be saved. Once they realize that it can't, they will flight somewhere else. I mean, farther than Texas, a lot farther.

The Mises institute is another. As for Dr.Paul, I'm quite sure he believes what he talks about, in fact, I can only think of one stance that he's changed his mind about and thats the death penalty.

Over the last couple months they've stopped drilling here in Fort Stockton. Many are relocating to Mid/Odessa for jobs. The rest are going back to Mexico.

I would have been interested to hear more about Marc Faber had to say about buying a farm if I didn't have to pay twenty bucks for his book. As one who "hobby" farms and has resided in the country most of my life, I'd be curious to know how many acres he suggests one should purchase, machinery/equipment, crops/livestock, and such he would recommend for "city slickers". A lot has changed in "farming" since the Great Depression.

“Buy a farm and let your girlfriend work on the farm,” he said, to the applause of investors". Too funny. Speaking from experience, getting a girlfriend from the city to work on a farm is virtually an impossibilty once the quaintness and novelty wears off. First time it comes to butchering, she'll become a vegetarian. Then of course, repeated instructions that she can't just flush anything down the toilet or sink without doing damage to the septic system. The water coming from the well is not unlimited like in the city.

I would tend to believe that if one isn't already in the country/on a farm or have farming experience, it's probably too late.

The farming part of this topic just reminded me of a neighbor (with no farming experience)who moved down the road here a few years ago from Chicago. He called me up one day in a frenzied voice. "There's something wrong with my corn, it looks like the tap root is growing in the wrong direction, can you come down and take a look"? I said "ok" and left for his farm. Hunkering down, I took a long careful look at the shoots, shook my head a few times (a few "hmmmmm's" interjected) and told him "You planted your seeds upside down". Had him going for almost 20 minutes on that one. Priceless.

Nice one, Beeorganic bigsmile bigsmile

I think Faber just joked, meaning that the result of this bail-out will invariably be an inflation, which will result in rise of prices, which will result in price controls, which will lead to shortages.

I have always heard that in a reccession or depression your money will at least hold it's own on inflation. Putting your money in gold at least untill we are coming out of it the stock market making a steady gain.. A week or so ago gold was at $997 and oz. They are saying it may go to $3000 an oz. I have to agree with this as the gold standard is usually a safe bet. Have you noticed the newspaper adds and elsewhere companies want to buy your gold? Thier is a good reason why they want it..
