Topic: Antivirus suit ? | |

What's the best free program. I was using Mcafee which I liked very much but after reinstalling windows on my computer and trying to reinstall it, it wouldn't work it kept failing on me and I called them up and they told me to get rid of everything in which I had done that would be related to spyware programs etc because it wouldn't work with there's but everything I have tired doesn't work.
Any ideas how I can reinstall it if the installment fails. ? The reason I ask this is because it is free to me since I have high speed internet through comcast and I also use aol. If not is there any good free programs. Right now I downloaded Avast last night / late morning but it's an alright program, I'm just not to sure how over all good it is. |

I use AVG on my PC, and all of my customers systems as well, and it has a free version.

use NOD32 at home now (faster than rest) and Avira at work
Found both to be faster than AVG. |

ohh. Maybe you had the same problem I did. If you download the Beta version of Internet Explorer (8, I think), then it makes it so the McAfee screen is blank. I had to go back to IE 7 and then it worked again.

Not sure about that, but I don't have IE 7 because when I first had it on my pc it wouldn't even work, so I end up downloading aol just to download IE 8, this was while I was trying to update all of my programs since reinstalling windows xp on my pc. |

I've had pretty good luck with Avira Anti-Vir Personal. Unlike AVG (which is crippled at the factory and won't actually get rid of your viruses) and Avast! (which requires that you re-up your registration annually), it works pretty well. Of course, you gotta deal with the nag screens telling you that you just HAVE to get the full-version, but the proggy is pretty much cool nonetheless. Comodo supposedly has a combination firewall/anti-virus program that evidently works well, also. I don't have any experience with that particular suite, though. |

DONT GET AN ANTIVIRUS ANYTHING. IT IS A SCAM.
If your computer gets messed up after you visit some porn site - reformat. There is not an antivirus program in the world that can handle every specific tracking cookie - and who cares. You don't need security on a computer. No one is coming to get you. Stop paying those idiots protection against something that does not happen. |

Many viruses can be stopped with registry cleaner programs, and regularly empting your cookies, tracking, history and temp folders.

I did like avast, but it bugged me that I couldn't set a schedule and had to run it manually.
I'm on Avira now and find it a great Anti virus program. I run Spybot and CCleaner twice a week as well and never had a bother. |

I run COMODO, which is 100% free, and has been working good so far.
