DONT GET AN ANTIVIRUS ANYTHING. IT IS A SCAM. If your computer gets messed up after you visit some porn site - reformat. There is not an antivirus program in the world that can handle every specific tracking cookie - and who cares. You don't need security on a computer. No one is coming to get you. Stop paying those idiots protection against something that does not happen. You don't even have to go to porn sites to get virus now a day's.. just open a simple email with out any warning and bang your pc is good as a gonner or better yet talk to a friend who has a virus and they may not know it and when talking to them through AIM or Yahoo which ever service you have.. you can get a virus. Besides reformating your pc all or any of the time or a lot of the time can take and be a hand full not to mention bothersome when having to reinstall programs all over again even if you don't have those programs backed up etc, some of those backed up files could have a virus on them etc. Not sure just saying. |

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Avast. That's what I use and it works great, it will even prevent malicious/hijacked websites from opening.

Their has been some good "AntiVirus/AntiSpyware" programs mentioned here and a couple that just ain't worth a POOP, I've use ever single one in this thread, but I will leave names out with respect for the persons using,(cause if "it's" working for them, thats all that matters, PERIOD!). Really it depends where you are going online, as to what problems you run into. You can believe this: if you keep having problem, you will figure a way to fix it, or depending on the nature of problem you will-not be online. After getting back online, you will be afraid to go where you were going after fixing (LOL). I think what a lot of people miss in this subject is, that their's not one program that takes care of all, and it just saddens me to say that!, cause they are in business for this. RootKits are becoming more and more seen these days, and many free-programs do not even touch these.
When it comes to your top: Virus, Worms, Trojans and other threats that cause bad results, most the time whatever Program you are using, it seems it doesn't take care of it,(I'm speaking TOP THREATS HERE) but they have the special tools for you to download, to fix issue, and not built into paided or free program you are using. oh~well enough of the Bla Bla Bla. I have used many But these are some good programs, they may or may not take care of all your needs, but that Don't mean they aren't no good, I have programs just sitting dead on computer, and pull them up when needed, and test them out against each other at times, I have four computer and I play pokeronline, and download books,Fileshares, burn music, rar files, zip files ect.ect.ect., so you can just imagine what I run into at times. I will recommend a few if you are having problem with the one you are running: Spyware: Malwarebytes AVG 8.0 SuperAntiSpyware SpywareDoctor SpyBot Virus: Malwarebytes&Anti-Malware AVG8.0 Avast Pro Hijackthis KasperskyAntiVirus Their are many that are good but Im tired hahaha Oh do forget to have a good cleaner around like "Ccleaner" A good firewall if your program don't have one I'd recommend "ZoneAlarm" "Comodo" |

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Avast. That's what I use and it works great, it will even prevent malicious/hijacked websites from opening. I think I used that before I got Mcafee working for me again, I didn't care much for it but that's me. Inless it was a different program but I am sure it wasn't. |

Calmwin is good option and it is open source. All of the other options mentioned here are closed source. Which means they are a black box, the source code is not open for inspection, so you don't really know what is going on. With open source, the source code is open and anyone can inspect it. Even if you do not what you are looking at in the source code, thousands of others will and do and if something funny is going on they will see it and report it. There is no place to hide any funny business in open source code. |

Some options:
1. Avira. Never tried this, but it's spoken of highly. 2. AVG: Has OCD, but that only means a thorough clean! 3. Avast!: Likes to report things. "Virus database has been updated." "I cleaned my room - can I go play?" 4. Comodo: Literally has a setting called 'paranoid'. And it is! "It seems your mouse moved half-an-inch to the right. Do you want me to bludgeon it to death?" I recommend any of them (but not all together!) |

Avast has been running solidly on my machine for awhile now. Solid piece of anti-virus that tells you everything it does (comes in handy for those that don't know what it is doing when it does it).
