OK was it just me or was watching the President's address tonight like watching a Catholic church sermon....UP ...Down ...UP....Down....once more UP....down

Those people got more excercise there than in a Saturday morning aerobics class!

I just finished watching it. It was a good address and he is standing firm on his resolve. Good for him. I think he will do good.

Drats I missed it because I suspended my directv for 6 months due to saving money. I never felt bored with his speeches so I probably would have liked it. Of course I suspect if you don't like the guy you won't find much of anything he says suitable. Pretty much how I felt about Bush, it's just that the other side is whining this time around. It seems we have to take turns whining about presidents.

I didn't find him engaging, but I think that's because I'm somewhat jaded. And, ironically, he made a statement meant to assuage the jaded. I think he is naive and being force-corn-fed. As ever, actions and reactions and realism shall be the proof of the pudding, but I just know, in my heart of hearts, HIS actions won't be effective and he shall succumb and be put in his place. I wish it weren't so. I hope he just "gets lucky", though!!!! He's not nearly in as much control as he'd hoped or the public hoped and still hopes.

As far as the speech went, he did an adequate job.

I am still perplexed about how he can talk fiscal responsibility after signing the largest spending bill in history. With another $400 billion bill, full of earmarks, about to be pushed through congress.

I applaud the effort to wind down the Iraq occupation, but on the other hand, escalating the War in Afghanistan is indefensible. With pakistan propping up the Taliban, its a pointless endeavor that will result in further loss of American lives and waste billions more of our money. With the terrorists hiding in Pakistan, there is nothing else we can do in Afghanistan.

Someone in Washington needs to stand up and tell the truth about Pakistan, and what its been doing for the last 30 years. For some reason they are all in denial, and can't bring themselves to call out Pakistan and their proliferation of islamo terrorism.

He can talk about it because he's trying to keep the U.S. from going down the drain from the big mess that he's inherited.

Bingo.

I thought the speech was long on hat and short on cattle. Not surprising though. It was just so many minutes of an eloquent speaker tripping over his words trying to convince us against the simple fact that the scariest 10 words in the english language are: "I'm from the federal government and I'm here to help"

My biggest problem was his "inherited" deficit.

Did Obama not vote for the bank bailout?
http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00213

Did Obama not vote to pass the federal budget for this fiscal year?
http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=2&vote=00085

And what the hell, here's him voting for the 2008 budget.
http://senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00114

Of course, Obama did not vote for the Economic Stimulus Bill in 2008. He was too bust campaigning in New Orleans that day. Guess all that $175B in extra spending wasn't that important.

Inherited my ass. He voted for all this bull**** and now he's trying to wash his hands of it. ****ing coward.

And the other irony, when he says he's going to cut the deficit, he's not talking about the federal budget that was approved, he's talking about the deficit for the entire year...

(budget deficit + war spending + the bailouts) / 2 = fustercluck.
