It's because you're familiar with and used to the person you were seeing. Letting go after breaking up with someone can be tough like that.

It's probably over cause the feeling's not mutual.

Letting go isn't so hard if you have prepared somebody else that you want to hold onto. BOB is a fill-in.
Being emptyhanded just sucks rocks.

letting go is hard by default, its only more painful when you now it's over.

It is what you have come to know, the companionship, the idosyncrasies that you both came to accept, all the things you did together and went together, etc. Then you realize the plans you made together are no longer possible. It hurts and your mind, body and soul react to that and makes you want to hold on.

Once you are fully aware it is over - it is a grieving process. It hurts like hell - but once you make it through the process you will be able to look back and know, without a doubt that you were better off not being in that relationship for whatever reason.
