Been out of work since october & don't have unemployment

I'm out since December, not drawing unemployment. I got some savings and sold a property but it will run out sometime this year so ....I'm looking for a job for 3 months now.

I don't know anybody that is but I know several general contractors that aren't working enough. They said that people aren't remodeling their homes.

You are correct. Actually since I worked in construction, we noticed that there was something serious coming, and this was back in 2005. The lumber yards were complaining, that they aren't selling any wood and building supplies, so I was kinda telling everyone, that we got a giant problem heading this way. Of course, everyone treated as like lunatics. Here we are now, now I'm a prophet.

I have been talking to all the folks across America that I deliver to and some of them there with 25-30 years on their job,,,are scared that their cut backs will hit them..
And many of the small News papers in the little towns are one of the few to still have employees..

Thanks man, same back to you! Many places I'm over qualified, other places don't even reply at all or tell me to "call next month".

Trying to get a job these days is like playing the lottery. The chances to get hired is probably the same ratio.

I know a few drawing partial, but that is normal in my area for winter. Summer Seasonal area, but the rate is higher due to layoffs and business closings. Lower amounts construction jobs, the ones working feel very lucky right now.

Live in Michigan and work for a lumber yard. Have been on reduced hours for 1 1/2 years. They laid off the guy I work with a month ago, so now I do his job too with no extra pay, but a few more hours. Worked at a part-time job but the business closed. I'm thankful to have a job.

Best of luck to those out looking.

I am even nervous about my job, still working full at the hospital, but they are tightening down their belt too, and they do weird things without any notice, saw them fire a housekeeper last year with 30 years employment and a records person with 28 years, so I just try to stay under the radar. For the last year or so I have been burning all my leave and still having 1 to 8 hours leave without pay on my check each payday as there hasn't been enough work for me. I managed to pick up a part-time 2nd job in September, don't really want all the extra work, but need the money and especially with the other job being "iffy" going to take anything I can get and hold on to it.

I don't think I am the only one at the hospital watching my back either. Time will tell.

I hope everyone looking for a job finds one soon, that is the worst situation to be in. Good luck in your search. flowerforyou

A good friend of mine was part of a crew that built new homes in Florida. About 2 years ago the work really slowed down and he came back home.

I live in Michigan as well. Fortunately, I work in an industry where the demand for the product doesn't get affected much by the economy.

My brother works in a hospital. They aren't allowed to work overtime anymore. They've gotten freaky tough about attendance too. If you get sick and miss more then two days, you are "punished" and suspended for a small period of time.
