Ok, how old is your PC?

How many did you have so far?

Did you always buy from places like Dell or Compaq etc?

Have you ever custom built a PC or replaced something on your own?

Do you know, you can have it custom built in many places with the top of the line hardware and be more reliable than a PC from Dell?

Did you know, that Gateway had bad "habit" of using re-manufactured, re-used components (previously used CD ROM, DVD drive, Hard drive) and lately I noticed similar cases with Dell? (I fix computers for others as a hobby)

My current computer is around two years old. It's a hand-built thing I put together myself. In fact, all the computers I've had over the years (with the exception of my first one) were all hand-built.

I refuse to go with OEMs because they just plain suck. I'd rather go through the hassle of putting my own system together, as i know exactly what is going in it.

My current computer is 4 years old, though I have since upgraded the processor, video card and RAM. I built it myself my junior year of college. It is on my to do list to replace the guts of it as I can no longer upgrade it (there's only so much you can do with DDR, AGP and a socket 939).

The only other computer I have active right now is my firewall (dual P3s, baby :P). However, I have parts enough to get 2, maybe 3 more machines up and running if I had a need and have only recently given away/loaned 5 machines (one to an aunt, one to each brother of which I have 2, one to my parents and one to an ex...I'd take that one back if I could). I suspect 1 of those will be coming back to me as the person I gave it to had someone else give them a better machine.

I would disagree that you can have computers custom build for the same price as places like Dell or Compaq. At least when it comes to the budget market I would. Those computer come with everything you need as well as a valid license of Windows for as little as $400. If you build the machine yourself and aren't planning on running Linux or pirating a copy of Windows (I do not condone piracy) then you are going to be spending $200 just on Windows alone! It is not feasible to build a budget machine for the same price that you could right out buy one, let alone for cheaper.

8 years and still rockin'. it's a sony and I only bought it because I couldn't build a comparable one for the price I paid.

1.8 P4 and 512 ram. and it'll still run photoshop lol. The only problem I've ever had is my CD drive and DVD burner going out. otherwise, not a problem. Even the monitor still works and gives way better color than my brother's flatscreen lol.

I'm just holding out for a MacBook Pro 15" and an external display - I'm so tired of the crap with MS and windows.

Mine is self built and programmed. 3 gig duo core, 3gigs of RAM, 2 DVD combo drives, 3 SATA hard drives, xp pro, plasmascreen (18"), saitek x52 FCS and gamers keyboard, wireless optical mouse, 11 in 1 card reader. Has a ATI 512 vid card with onboard RAM and an ASUS motherboard. Cost me about 350$ to build it myself...everything bought new.
Had it for about 6 years and my frankenstien still runs great. Its the only one I've every owned...and the only one I ever will.
