They have had every day since the inception of this country 24/7/365. What help did they need?

They were not brutalized.
They were not oppressed.
They were not discriminated against.
They have not suffered this and still managed to accomplish all that they have accomplished.

Please, only ignorant white folks who have never considered the life of a black person in this country would even consider that they are "discriminated against". My opinion of couse.

I first just thought you were just being a red-neck, but I see your point. I have never seen government do more harm than when it tries to medal in our lives under the guise of correcting a perceived social injustice, just look at the current banking/Liberal-lending crisis. I commend you for not being a coward, but I doubt facts are going to influence many on this forum. My ancestors came here on slave ships, starved sick and beaten, they sold themselves into slavery just to survive, later they married with Dutch and American Indians. So now every St Patrick’s day or just whatever-day; I lift my glass just a little higher to thank god no one is giving me all that help. I disagree with an earlier poster I think we should all proudly celebrate our heritage every month I would feel badly if the government had to intervene or re-write history on my behalf.

I agree that the government has not always done the best job but with the problem of discrimination because of skin color in this country, they had to do something, nothing would have been an abomination almost worse than the one committed to have the oppressed people here against their will in the first place.

To uplift a people that have been oppressed is not an easy job.

im guessing dragonness that by going by with what you say...you also fully support the state of israel....after all, they were much more oppressed than the black people.

it took a world war and not just a civil war to free the jews.

april, maybe thats the jewish history month.

They should all have a month. Hell, the months are already assigned to several different things, why not. But none of these people were oppressed like the black folks, the closest you can get are the native indians and the government has messed them over too.

Considering this is the melting pot in this country. I can celebrate Octoberfest for my German background, St Patties day for my Irish background and attend an Indian celebration for my American Indian background so I do not feel neglected at any level. laugh
