There are 2 kinds of powder monkeys, that I know of. The person who prepares explosives and wiring for detonation is called a powder monkey. That was what we were called when setting dynamite charges to break stumps out of the ground, when I was a kid. There is also an explosive mixing apparatus that "handles" the mixed ingredients, and supplies the mix to explosives handlers. Sometimes, that device is called a powder monkey.
