Oh, I'm not judging why people turn down assistance, in many cases, I can actually understand it. But in some cases, people should do what they need to when children are involved.

In this city, a lot of the rehab programs available for people without much income are faith based, and people do want to be told that they are expected to follow Christianity in order to be accepted into the programs. I've read that this is a problem in many areas. Faith based assistance programs of many types done require you to be Christan, but they expect you to be converted while receiving assistance or doing a program.

It won't state the price paid. Just the value and according to the Tax Assessor, it is valued at $12,800.00.

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA - A woman making national headlines after a tearful moment with President Obama has a new home.

Thursday morning, Chene Thompson handed Henrietta Hughes the keys to her home in Hendry County. Thompson is the wife of State Representative Nick Thompson. Hughes and her son will live at the home rent free.

However, a local organization is coming forward saying Hughes isn't being honest about how much help she's had in the past.

The director of We Care Outreach Ministry, Tanya Johnson, says just last month she offered Henrietta Hughes permanent housing and a place to stay free for three months, but Hughes refused.

"We would have allowed her to stay for the first 90 days, no income. You know free," said Tanya Johnson.

We Care Outreach Ministry is a faith based organization in Fort Myers.

Johnson says she also gave Henrietta and her son Corey, money, food and offered Corey job training courses, but it was refused.

"We have extended a lot of her services to her," Johnson said.

Under "Quit Claim Deed", third paragraph, it says, "for and inconsideration of the sum of 0 dollars...."

She transferred ownership to her son Corey for 0 dollars.
In most states, to qualify for welfare, medicaid, etc. you cannot have liquid assets. She signs it over to Corey, viola, nothing liquid. Wonder if DSHS is aware of it?

You can own a house and still receive Medicaid. I don't know about welfare.

You can receive welfare for only 5 years, btw. While receiving welfare, you have to be going to school or working.

If she lives in a car, she doesn't have an address to receive those things.

If the woman was offered help before, it's unlikely this was politically staged for Obama. Geesh!! And it's hardly necessary with so many people hurting right now.

Also how do you know the information on property is actually her property. There are people with the same name all over the country, living in the same cities and counties. I can't even count the people here that have the same names as well as middle names...

I wonder if the services she was offered by the faith based folks was turned down due to requirements from the faith folks. Would be interesting to know. Also wonder if she was just trying to get the best offer and the recent house was the best one...

If she is a scammer she isn't all that good at it considering people will look into her background. You can't get gov services with out a lot of paper work you must come up with. I personally don't know why anyone would want to go through that on a regular basis, if they didn't need it.

Anyone know how old the son is and if he even has a work record.. of just a mother and son scam team, it does happen though I wouldn't say it was wide spread. Either way I can't see this as political at all, she just have more nerve them most.

Part of the new Stimulus Plan includes reviving the old Welfare System, ending the existing Welfare Reform. The old system took away any incentive to look for employment.

The property info, had you cared to read, is from the Tax Assessors office in Fort Meyers. There may be as many as 3 properties they own or have their names on.

There are no other Henrietta or Corey Hughes in Fort Meyers.

Corey Hughes was fired from a Gov. job, near impossible thing to happen. His age is 43. He also refused job training.

There has been nothing, to link the Hughes with any sort of Mental or Physical Incapacity. Able to work, just not wanting to.
