Topic: Nasty cold... | |

My son is 7 years old and weighs about 60 pounds- He is a little thing
Well...we went to the ER day before yesterday because he had a fever, vomiting and some body pain. Turned out they diagnosed him with a "cold" so no antibiotics(which is fine considering I'm not one of these parents that "NEED" antibiotics for my child when ill). I'm a bit concerned because my boys haven't ever run a fever for more than 2 consecutive days. This is the third day. Is it normal for children to run fever this long without breaking? |

Depends on how high. Low grade fever...yes.

Those are odd symptoms for a "cold", IMO.

My daughter is 6 and several times in her life she has had a long running fever (a week or so) like that. I alternate motrin and tylenol and keep her hydrated. She is small too at 46 pounds.

Sounds like a GI flu virus to me.... they can run up to five days. Rotate Tylenol with Motrin (Motrin at night as it lasts eight hours), keep him hydrated, and go back to the doctor if symptoms continue for more than five days. Try not to let him drink water, it can induce vomiting.

These ladies know what they are talking about. Rotating Tylenol and Motrin is exactly what I do when my little one has a fever. And with the fluids, I find Pedialyte is great.

Turtle Dove... you little girl must be an angel if she will drink that for her daddy. My kiddo won't have any part of that stuff! Gatorade is still the old standby... or you can add canned fruit juice to Pedialyte if you've already paid the $7.99 or whatever they want for it. No sugar added popsicles and fudgsicles are fantastic, some even have real fruit juice in them. Hospitals often break these up into slushies and feed them to patients with a spoon. |

you might wish to check out "colloidal silver", a natural anitbiotic that kills about 535 different bateria's naturally, and builds the immune system, without any tolerance or side effect issues....
the most bacteria any prescribed anitbiotic kills is about 12 different bacteria's... the old saying, "born with a silver spoon in the mouth", came from the "rich" in past days putting silver dollars in the bottom of their barrels of drinking water, not knowing how or why, but recognizing some medicinal effects from it.... many munincipalities are now introducing "silver" into the "water systems" to kill any bateria... i was diaognosed with a GI infection, and after 4 months of continued "different" antibiotic's and 30 pounds of weight loss and constant vomiting and diarrhea, with the doc saying all we could do is keep trying a different antibiotic until we found one that would kill the bacteria, i took matters into my own hands, and found 'colloidal silver'...... in 3 weeks i was as back to perfect health, when many said it looked as if i had aids, i was so sunken and sickly..... i have continued to use it with my kids and loved one's every since, and it truly offers many amazing qualities.... if it is not bacteria induced, then one has only built the immune system..... just ideas.... peace |

Did they check his blood sugar? You want to rule out Type 1 |

They didn't!!!

Dont panic. He would be a lot more sick. Throwing up all the time, drinking tons of water so its not that. It would be like a 1% chance. If he does start doing anything like that, have his blood sugar checked. You want to look for thirst all the time and a lot of peeing.

My friends daughter recently had the stomach flu so bad that she couldn't hold anything down for a week. Even water. She was taken to the hospital twice to force fluids in an IV. Doctors said they couldn't really do anything more and it would just have to run it's course.
Sometimes, you just have to wait. That's the horrible thing about flu. |

Influenza is the flu - in the chest. |
