does one relapse within the first year when trying to be clean and sober? Over 27 yrs. No relapse. Known many a man and woman who got sober, stayed sober. But its just for today. One day at a time. Sometimes its just for right now. |

Hopefully not often. Think what is important is to get back on program and maybe learn from the slip. Figure out why/what lead up to it. I have found bad habits return in a void so you need to find something that meets your need in a good way.

I relapsed twice already, but it's only been six monthes.
The first time was of course new years, but that was only alcohol. I didn't black out or anything, just got drunk. I did again this last weekend, did some pills and drinking. That kinda scared me, because I blacked out once again, but I woke up in my bed, I don't remember what happened. I just remember drinking, taking some pills, and waking up in my bed. |

You just have to keep trying one day at a time. It is an everyday struggle for some. Perhaps a 12 step program could help. They have sponsors that you could call when you feel like you are going to relapse. Being around others trying to achieve the same goal gives you someone to talk to. In the past I attended Alanon meetings for people whose life has been affected by alcohol or drugs. All 12 step programs are similar. Best of luck to you totage.

Because court costs and fines are pretty expensive, and jail time can't be too fun. Besides, going in and out of hospitals is getting old, and pretty expensive. |

All my friends still drink and use. I'm thinking of moving out of state and starting fresh. |

Learning to get rid of old habits is difficult. New friends to hang out with may be in order. You need to surround yourself with people trying to live a sober life. This is best until you are strong enough to be around the partying atmosphere. AA meetings would help you not feel so alone.

Go to a meeting and ask about doing a 'geographic' It means moving someplace else thinking life will be better there and it will be easier to stay sober there, and I 'll make new friends there. But guess what?? 'There' you are and so is your problem. |

I've tried meeting new people in AA, talking to them even though I felt like I didn't know what I was doing. |

AA or an outpatient program might provide some support that might help you not to relapse! |
