Man attacks day care center in Belgium, kills 3, slashes 10 kids all over their bodies.

DENDERMONDE, Belgium (AP) — A man went on a rampage at a Belgian day care center Friday, stabbing two young children and a female worker to death and slashing 10 other children all over their bodies, officials said.

Sobbing parents rushed to the scene and to hospitals, and medical workers sprung into action, performing 12 operations to save the 10 badly wounded children and two adults who were also stabbed.

The attack caused widespread panic in the town 20 miles (30 kilometers) northwest of Brussels. The day care center serves up to 30 children on a residential street.

"An act of great brutality has happened here against our weakest citizens," said mayor Buyse Piet. "The whole city is united in support for the parents who are in deep grief."

Supposedly man had no connection nor was there any reasoning (not that there would be a rational one) for this behavior.

Man kills one adult, two children and slashed 10 other kids all over their bodies.

What is this world coming to??? shocked

Tragic event my sympathies go out to the children and parents, however the age old, "what is the world coming to" statement just rings as reactionary to me.

I can think of any number of physiological issues with this guy that could precipitate this kind of reaction.

ie, sounds like he was crazy.

I am questioning what this world is coming to? As a parent my first question was, why were these children harmed? Innocents slaughtered by what I agree must be a crazy, deranged, psychotic, maniacal, etc. person, guess I am only trying to make sense of a nonsensical event.

Not looking for answers really, don't want to justify nor classify his actions at all, just sharing my shock and disbelief.

This is such a shame. I visited Brussels recently. My default pic was taken at the Manneken Pis monument.

Such a beautiful city.

There are crazy people all over the world.

Very true, mental disorder can happen to anyone. I think that events like this tend to polarize people and we choose to not to want to understand how this could occur.

And of course we are all unaware of this man, or anything about him, which means none of us has a clue why.

I can come up with reasons/excuses/diagnosis for actions, can answer so many different ways on how it occured. But it's not understanding how this occurs, but the outrage that it did occur and that it was done to children. (jmo)

I agree. I am always trying to understand how some humans cannot feel this same outrage. I wish I understood.

Some people say "We live in a sick world". I say, there are sick people that live in our world. To me it's not what the world it is coming to, it's what it has not yet become...

This is a disgusting act, no doubt we want to know why he did this, but if he is actually crazy I doubt we will ever know. Very sad, indeed.
