Sundown laws did not just apply to Blacks but were often used against Native American's through out the Mid-West to prevent them from owning houseing.
That the county funding also limited sewer services to be within city limits it made it nearly impossible to have indoor toilets or running water for baths if you did not have a home within city limits. When Barber County Kansas built their new High School in the 60's they had the then new Harlem Globetrotters come in for and exhibition game. Because of sundown laws they were denied lodgeing and were told to drive to Pratt, Kansas. While they would not be bold enough to refuse to play they did have the game scheduled earlier than planned so they would be out of down early enough to be out of town before sundown. Bigots laughed that our town knew how to control "colored" people unlike Pratt or Wichita which had large segregated minority communities. Kids that were bi-racial even a little bit were very upset. Many families who had early histories of mixed families were openly discriminated against in Masonic temples. |

about what scoundrel said... i know lots of roads an residences that hes talking about avoiding in KS that are that way out in the sticks...theyd shoot at you for coming onto their land...if they didnt know u like that, but the constitution gives them the right to be that way, theres nothing to be afraid of unless there is, u gotta know the difference an know the difference why, like why rich ppl discriminate against you on a daily basis, ur a wage slave to them, u will be unless u rub them a different way, u throw a few bails for someone an all of a sudden ur all right, hell u can play paintball on their land or they will come pull you out of a ditch with a tractor instead of fire a shotgun at you, which do you prefer??? talking poorly about them on the internet isnt the way to gain such 3rd world america priveleges as i have seen in certain places, they COULD see this too if they were looking, OR SHOWN

Wow, it happened to the Harlem Globetrotters. The 60's wasn't that long ago. |

I sure wouldn't want to live in an area that you can be shot at if you get lost. What do you mean - Talking poorly about them on the internet isn't the right way to gain such 3rd world American privileges? |

There are more than a few areas around here where "DWB" (driving while black) is a reason to get pulled over by the cops.

There are more than a few areas around here where "DWB" (driving while black) is a reason to get pulled over by the cops. I was driving through a black neighborhood in the daytime on the way to my mom's work. I was pulled over by a black officer and asked if I was lost. No, I wasn't. |

Lots of white folks drive through black areas looking for drugs.

Lots of white folks drive through black areas looking for drugs. Good point. I had my child with me and it was daytime near a business area. I didn't think that was a drug area. |

You never know, but the cops and the druggies do. And you would be shocked to find out how many people drive around with their kids in the car looking for drugs. |
