As bad as that can be, I will never own a house as a single person or married to a bum again.

And, when I did own a house, I still had obnoxious neighbors who played ball against my fence and knocked down an Eddie Bauer outdoor thermometer and had another who was into hot air ballooning who insisted on doing tests in their yard. Then there are the ones who insist on having a rooster for a pet, outdoors, of course, and the myriad neighbors who insist a lawn must be mowed prior to 6am on weekends. And the lovely white trash neighbors across the street who evidently knew what shabby chic was before it became popular and had no idea what they were doing to my house's market value!!! But, hey, homeownership is the American Nightmare!!!

I own am a single person that owns a house. Pout.

Awwww do you need a hugg too???

Sure.bigsmile

OH dam, I didn't recognise you!

jonny sends a "superhugg" to winx knocking her to the ground and smothering her with huggs!!! bigsmile  bigsmile

I live in an apartment that is smaller than what used to be my family room. I rarely hear my neighbors, luckily. Heck I rarely see them.

But to me, nothing beats owning your own place. And I'll do it again. Not soon, mind you since I gave my ex the equity in the previous home. But eventually. Even with all the yard work, the repairs, the painting.... it's still my own personal refuge. And if you get a 5 acre lot you only have to worry about your neighbor's pets!

Having good neighbors is a real blessing wheather in an apartment or a home but I like owning my own key and saying who can come in my door and who can't. It might be hard paying for a repair but it sure beats begging for one or knowing if you do repair it they will probably just raise your rent or crowd you out when you are old or sick.

Do you have selfish neighbors who don't think of their neighbors? Case is noisy neighbors who don't consider you, parties until 2 a.m., or my favorite, air fresheners and plug ins that engulf your building and seep into your apartment, making you nauseous. Superintendants can do anything when something is in their apartment, such as air fresheners emanating from inside. I will own my own home in five years!

I have been in my apartment for four years now. I have had SEVERAL neighbors in the other apartment.

I figure that I have seniority..lol

In 5 years, you will enjoy...

Making love screaming at the top of your lungs in every part of your home.

Blasting the stereo

For no reason, screaming woohoo!

Enjoy total freedom

Suddenly jump when you hear an unfamiliar creak in the home,
but know it's nothing a neighbor has done.

Note sounds of silence, and be grateful.

Note that your neighborhood has dropped from 40 families down to perhaps 8,

Enjoy a totally different quality of life problem, such as, noting that the church bell can't count out the hours right.

Find the freedom to run up and down stairs, making much noise, optionally clothed.

Today, I get to enjoy such insanities. laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Ive lived in apartments before. Dont think that if you live in your own home you wont have people/neighbours partying all night long......because you do. As for the air fresheners, thats not a biggie for me but I did live in an apartment that had mushrooms growing out of the carpets!!!noway laugh laugh

Lol it's hella fun ^-^ but we're all younger i'm sure it's bothered older people who like peace and quiet haha but i do respect them but usually i can hear the neighbors next to me and my stereo is far from their wall haha so the only one we compete with is upstairs but we're all mexican so i don't mind their parties and they don't mind my music

I am fortunate to have an end unit and only one neighbor. She is single, too and very quiet.

The back of my apartment happens to face the playground. I work 2nd shift and sleep late - the kids on the playground in the summer drive me absolutely insane!

I'm in a top floor corner unit so I don't have to worry about it too much but this neighborhood is pretty quiet anyway.

I'm still thinking of buying something when my lease is up in July.

One of the apartments I had the driveway was next to my bedroom window & the landlords kid would be out there early morning on the weekends bouncing a basket ball, never shot for the hoop just bounced it & the landlords would fight all the time, The first night they bought this house they were out at the bar & they came home & he was beating the crap out of his wife in the hall way. My other apts. have some crazies around as well. No more apts. for menoway

Well heck in 5 years when you just start buying I will have mine paid off for. I love living in a house with the repairs and all at least I can do what I want to with it when I want to. My neighbors are all actually pretty quiet well except the ones that are closer to my bedroom their party's on the weekends get loud once in a while but heck they don't bother me heck if they get too loud I will go join them.bigsmile

It has been shshsh 30 years since I have lived in and apartment.noway

I know this thread is for apartment dwellers, but I read it anyway for I was one for many many years,, yeah all the horror stories..lol But 12 years ago I moved back to Ohio to be near family ( mom /cancer 4-7 yrs to live) well I had to chose buy a home or rent an apartment.. after my experioences I had with apartments I questioned it.. and I thought its not wise to buy a home either Figured I would be returning to Long Island.. Well I chose a new mobile home. yes I am so called trailer trash if you must.. But My home is really nice and in a nice place quiet neighbors etc.. hardly any kids all the good points. It was the smart choice when at first of my situation. Yes Mom is still here and so am I.. go figure...30 years I was gone I owed her that much gave up everything.. good job great pay .. and now... I finally have what I wanted in my life my own place nice area and peace of mind. so would renting give me that? I don't think so nor would of buying a regular home.

Staying in motels reminds me of apartment living.
