The more they specialize trying to attract a specific group the more I think we are promoting division.

I think that's rather a narrow way to look at it. We all have our own preferences -- why shouldn't we have the option of a site which caters more to our own needs?

It's like saying there should be no candy stores or hamburger places because the mega-grocery already sells all of that stuff.

How about a nice uncompromising elitist solipsist?

Be still my beating heart. smooched

Well, sad to say the professor meets that criteria. Dammit....

He exists, he just doesn't want to be my boyfriend. rant But it's okay..... I get to tease him about his emotional unavailability. Pluus as my friend he is much more relaxed..... The other night he said, oh I dated this woman once, she had no business being in a relationship..... I almost spit my drink out and said, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black? laugh laugh laugh

So, um, if there is one there must be more!

See, I thought that, too, only it turned out it doesn't work that way....

I refuse to believe that is true. But in the meantime, I'm having an absolute blast. What the hell, right? You only live once.

That's my belief, anyway -- Nietzsche's "eternal recurrence" be damned, I don't want to have to go through this again!

Inbreeding is never the right way if you stay only within what you know you'll never learn about others. Unless someone is stuck in their own way and preferences and don't want to grow and learn then maybe those specialize sites are good for them.

I'm not gay so I would not join a gay site but if I join a site where there is all kind of preferences including gay I might learn more about them.

Produce and people are two different subjects.

So true. My only desirable elitists are all thousands of miles away. The whole uncompromising feature makes it difficult to adapt to geographic anomalies.

I disagree. I've been in enough relationships to know what works for me and what doesn't. It would be a complete waste of time for me to try to find what I want on a site that doesn't attract those kinds of people.

It's not about "growing," it's about knowing oneself and knowing what works for oneself.

But the underlying concept is the same. I can go to the grocery store for any sort of general item, but maybe the candy store has some special items the big store doesn't have --

By the same token, maybe the types of people who appeal to certain other people are simply more likely to be found on a specialized site. I just can't see that as a bad thing.
