With all the sports athletes always thanking God when they win I am wondering if God has favorites.

The winners always thank God for answering their prayers or giving them the strength to win, but I am sure that as many athletes on the loosing side did the same (praying to win).

So is God favoring some over others and why would he grant the prayers to some and not to others, does he have favorites or a side bet on games.

It's not about winning or losing...as you put it. It's about being in God's will regarding our lives & those around us that count. The mixture of blessing or challenges in life really depend on our own outlook. Sometimes even Christians miss the mark when they THINK their prayers are not being answered. Maybe they are resisting the changes God is making so He can bring them in line with His will & all He has for them. They forget that God is the Master Fixer Upper!

Hope this explains it for you better. flowerforyou

God is the Master Fixer Upper?

With this sort of track record one might suggest termination.

Well if you believe in a God who sends people to eternal damnation if they merely believe that God is above such evil foolishness, then not only is God a gambler, but he's very poor gambler and a great loser.

According to the Christian Bible that professes to worship such a betting God this God looses far more souls to damnation than it creates.

According to the Bible this God had to flush all of his human souls over to Satan during the Great Flood.

Satan is described as God's gambling partner since Satan is attempting to win souls from God.

According to the Bible Satan is the great winner and God is a big time loser.

Even later in the New Testament Jesus, who was supposed to be this loser God (or his son) verifies that God is indeed a loser. He states very clearly that the path to God's kingdom is straight, and the gate is narrow and few will make it.

Well, clearly if few make it into the kingdom of God, then the vast majority must be won by Satan as there is no other competition described in the book.

So the Bible makes it perfectly clear that God is not only a gambler but also a big time loser.

The biblical God is also totally powerless to save you from your fate.

There is nothing the biblical God can do to save you. You must save yourself, and the only way to save yourself is to believe that your creator is a gambler who is a great loser and is powerless to save you.

Only then can you be "saved" from the winning Satan and become an eternal servant to the loser God.

Only you can save yourself.

God is powerless to save you.

However, it is also said that this God will reject no one who asked to be saved. This God cannot reject you as a matter of principle because you are the only one who can save yourself.

So let us pray,

Dear loser God,

We are terribly sorry to hear about your gamblings losses, and that fact that you are powerless to save human souls from your gambling partner.

We can only imagine that you had been suckered into a totally unfair game by an angel who had clearly outsmarted you.

We would love to come and be your eternal servants as we can see that you are in dire need of caretakers.

We can only imagine that you are dying of Altzhimer's disease or some other form of dementia.

In fact, since you haven't reported in for over 2000 years it's probably safe to assume that you're already dead.

Besides, according to your book Satam has been a very faithful servant of yours. He beat Job up for you just as you had instructed him to do. And Job was one of your most devoted servants. Clearly your dementia was already quite advance even then.

It's hard to undestand why you would ever have your gambling partner beat up a human who devotion you had already won.

In any case, if you have already passed away we pray that you had a better creator than we did.

Amen

(Note to the angels: If God is already dead please place this prayer on his grave, thank you)

God does not take sides in human affairs...

The catholics in Germany blessed the bombs of Hitler, the catholics in USA blessed the bombs going over to stop them...go figure!

The very idea of blessing a bomb in God's name seems ludicous to me in any case.

Personally, I've always enjoyed the view presented in the opening of the Niel Gaiman/Terry Pratchett novel "Good Omens":

"God does not play dice with the Universe. Rather, He plays an ineffable game of His own devising which, from the viewpoint of the other players (i.e., everybody), can be likened to playing a game of high-stakes poker, in a pitch black room, with blank cards, with a dealer who won't tell you the rules and who SMILES ALL THE TIME."

All I wanted to point out is that you could have two opponent both real believers going to church all the time following God laws and the winner always thinks God helped him to win.

So getting your prayers answered is really only relative, how can you know or not that if you didn't pray for something that it would not happened anyway, there is no way to know for sure.

We hear all the time about answered prayers but rarely about the non answered ones.

I know I will hear the same answers "you have to believe or god works in mysterious ways or whatever else" I personally do not believe anyone answers our prayers except ourselves.

Well, answering your prayers yourself is the "mysterious way". laugh

Well the bible would seem to indicate that god is a betting man based on the book of Job and his little wager there with Satan. I just dont know how many times god would need to keep placing that same bet. huh

Well the bible would seem to indicate that god is a betting man based on the book of Job and his little wager there with Satan. I just dont know how many times god would need to keep placing that same bet. huh

That is so true!

Job is actually a story about Satan making a bet with God that Satan can break Job's devotion to God and turn him against God.

And God takes up Satan's bet? huh

What's up with that?

I argue that this story was clearly written by an idiot.

What kind of an all-powerful all-knowing God would take up a petty fallen angel on a bet like that?

And decent God would just tell Satan to go back to hell where he belongs and shut up.

No decent God would ever take up Satan on a bet.

Even if God knew that he was going to win what would be the point?

This suggests that God feels like he has something to prove to Satan.

But why should God have to prove anything to a lowly fallen angel? huh

The other thing too, is the simple fact that Satan is coming to God to ask permission to screw over Job suggest that Satan himself is a devoted servant of God!

Clearly Satan is asking for God's permission before he does his evil work.

What's up with that? huh

This suggests that Satan must ask God before he does anything. But that only suggests that Satan is nothing but God's hitman.

It's ridiculous.

The book of Job is utter asburdity. I've read that book quite a few times trying to justify it or make any sense of it at all.

But no matter how many times I read it all I can think about is that whoever wrote it wasn't thinking clearly.

They had a moral in mind that they wanted to get across. But the problem is that they didn't realize that in doing so they were making God out to be gambling partner with Satan.

And they were also making Satan out to appear to be a totally loyal servant of God. Certainly not any fallen angel who does his own thing in spite of God's wishes. The story of Job suggest that Satan doesn't make a move without God's permission!

What kind of an enemy would that be? huh

If Satan needs God's premission to do everything that he does then he's no enemy of God at all, but merely a demonic hitman of God.

Whoever wrote the story of Job didn't do the Bible any favor.

And for those people who claim that non-Christians keep 'bashing' the Bible, let me point out that the Bible claims to speak for the creator of all humanity.

I'm a human.

That gives me every right to voice an opinion on that godforsaken book.

As a human being I totally denounce that book as having anything to do with the creator of this universe.

And as a human being I'm entitled to hold that opinion and explain why I hold it.

As humans we have, not only the right to share our opinion on a book that claims to speak for our creator, but we have a duty to each other to voice these opinions.

The idea that we are 'bashing' somsone else's religion is absurd.

The book claims to speak for the creator of all humanity. Therefore every human being has a right to voice their opinion on the book.
