wishful thinking, I think they want something to be true so they only see the facts that reinforce their opinion and ignore those that don't It seems like a waste of time and energy to try and prove yourself correct through flawed logic. doesn't it though that's why I gave up on the political threads here. We are in a public forum and this necessitates everyone being free to express their opinions. I'm not bothered by that as much as I'm bothered by people that truly believe every thought and opinion they have is fact and present it to you in that manner. |

We also see a lot of "re-writing" of historically documented events. This happens very often on the religion forum. I routinely go through like a mine sweeper. History is a strong suit for me.

History is a strong point for me. History is by its very definition interpretive and subjective. Ten of us could be standing together at a corner witness the same event and have 10 different accounts of what happened. Now take that and add the passage of let's say 2,000 years. Then add to that a possibility of the only source material being second hand, i.e., someone alive at the time writing about Pope Urban II's Council of Clermont without having been there. It is easy to make any argument you like about causes, outcomes, etc. |

It is a little different if someone is choosing to willfully manipulate factual data already established and in place and I am more than capable of proving this, then I feel it only responsible of myself to bring it to the surface. They are more than welcome to dispute it but most of the “creative” writers on this forum give up pretty quickly. |
