I take issue with the idea of anyone being anyone's "world." I don't know why, but the very expression totally rubs me the wrong way. Not only in regards to kids, but to bf's/gf's/spouses. I'm sure it's very nice to have someone you care about that much but what if that person leaves, dies or just goes off you? Do you no longer have a world then? Are you looking for a world replacement? Or will you remain world-free? I like to think of other human beings as being an option for my happiness not a requirement, but I guess I'm strange? LOL Good thread Lex,
Well, I feel the same way about the "my world" concept. What happens when that person is no longer around? Do you dissipate into the ether? What was your life before that person came into it? Were you a statue, waiting to be awakened from your marble slumber? I just don't get the whole thing. A "world" is a big thing. It should have LOTS of room, for lots of people. |

Also, I just wanted to add that men do this too-"I'm a father to two beautiful boys and they are my world, if you can't accept that, take a walk."
Makes you want to hit that email button, doesn't it?

Hmmm, I guess we now have a female version of the nice guy who finishes last; the single mom who has her world in a death grip? Anyone? Anyone?
Just trying to have a little fun with the stereotypes -- pickin' 'em off, one at a time....!! |

Ironically, I think the main reason they say that is because they think it means they are a good parent; making the kids into your world means you have no room for anything, or anyone else. However, when people see that, they accept it and say okay you have your world already, and it's closed off to anyone else, let me go see who else's world I can be a part of. |

Hummmmm and your point....... if I'm sure I use the the phrase that my kids have been my world for in fact they were for many many years. But.....now they are grown and have their own lives and I'm in this big ole world by myself more then I care to be. But.....I do not in fact exclude the idea of letting anyone else into my world. But now my kids are first and foremost and I will not date anyone that has issues with my kids. Well, that makes sense but I don't see you shooting people over it, either!
Naw never and would not get ugly within the same sentence either. I have in fact found very few men that did not understand where I was coming from for if they are any type of a father they thought the same thing. My kids may have been my world for many years but they don't rule my world. But would never let any one come between us either good relationships with your kids are hard to build at times and be able to in fact mantain them are harder at times. |

oh my God Lex you are priceless
you are so funny
you should be paid big bucks
for your amazingly wise observations
your quick wit and satire is hilarious
Thank you! I'm hoping one of the big-city newspapers will offer me a column or something. Or I could do the Sudoku.
oh, you are soo talented truly...
and i don't usually compliment people unless they really deserve it
i know you didn't ask for a book...
but ...as usual...
i was thinking
and i really have to give a lot of credit
to responsible single mothers
and to responsible single Fathers
on the other side of the coin
as far as what you are saying
and my initial reaction
as a lady who was single
when my three children were little
divorced by choice ,though...
i filed the papers & was divorced in 1984 fyi
and i was single for a long time & then my fiance' & boyfriend
of two years was killed in 1997
due to a work related accident
and then my ex husband
my children's Dad died in 2001
as a result of diabetes & renal failure
so i have been single a long time
and many people out there
are not always nice
but more like human predators
when other people suffer great adversity
sooo...
We ladies often have to get tough
with a lot of men out there sometimes ...
cause ...NOT all men are Gentlemen,
Lex, you know
even though you may be
sometimes men want us
to put them first before the children
and especially when they are little
we cannot do that with our kids
and our children < really >are everything
relationships often come and go
but our families are forever !!!
it's nice to have a good man around ,
but it is better to be alone
than to be in poor company
and that goes both ways
with both genders
and in my experiences
it seems that many men's word
doesn't mean a whole lot these days ...
it is important for a lady to be strong
and not give others a false message
we may be kind, and loving
but we are also fierce protectors of our families
and it is important
to not let others
EVER EVER EVER
mistake kindness for weakness ![]()
cause that is not the way that it is
and we can be Mama mountain lions
if we need to be

I'm seeing a lot of this lately -- a woman, in her profile, will write, "I'm a single mother of two kids, and they are my world* and if you don't like it, you can take a fragmentation grenade and stick it up your butt and blow yourself all the way to Mars, you miserable heartless bastard."
I'm curious as to where you're finding profiles like that, with all those words, and spelled correctly!

It used to hurt everytime my ex would tell me his kids were his world. I guess there was no more room left. I ended it over this.
