Let's call it pragmatically prophylactic...

They both start with P and sound better than paranoid.

And, there I was thinking it was going to be when you posted her bail.

Well, there's always next time.

There was a time I would have. Not now though.

I have met people quickly (who live nearby) if I felt there was a connection from whatever chatting we had done thus far. But I have found that the ones who want to meet right away are always hoping to get lucky right away... before getting to know each other.

I'd rather do more chatting and talking on the phone and the length of time depends upon how things progress and how comfortable we feel at the time.

I base the first meeting on that.

I spent several weeks chatting and emailing with a guy and he was talking like he was falling for me, etc. and when it came to meeting in person, was stood up. He deleted his profile and I never heard another word... it seemed a very elaborate scam or cruel game.

So, one never knows... I just use my woman's intuition and go by my gut feelings when deciding when to meet someone for the first time.

Oh, that's great! I heard the same words at your age, and they meant much less then to me too. I'd have probably replied in a similar fashion. No harm, no foul.

It's a little, lamenting diddy that makes best sense later, down the road a piece. These proverbs are actually more a shout-out to those of us over 40, wistfully looking back at paths, decisions and oppurtunities not taken. Worse, the mistakes.

No sense in regret, just sheer amazement in how differently one would do it w/ ALL they have learned and now know. That's why the "youth is wasted on the young " comment FOLLOWS the "w/ age wisdom" adage.

There is another in it: "Wisdom comes too little, too late". It is about those of us that are old enough to know that we never knew it all, still don't. Sadly, the learning curve seems to often miss the ability to do it curve. Sigh...
