Let's see:
Lets = Allows (This site lets me be me.) Let's = contraction for "Let Us" (Let's all list all the common boo boos -- Or, Let's not.) Lose vs Loose: Lose = the verb for present tense of Lost (Did you lose your keys again?) Loose = the noun for not tight (I lost my keys because my key chain ring was loose.) TO vs TOO also): To (Let's go TO the store.) Too (May I go TO the store TOO?) Ok, unless I get more requests, I'm finished... climbing down off my soap box. |

I can't take it anymore... I must speak out. You just ended a sentence with a preposition. That is something up with which I will not put. dang, I'm busted... I was sick that day they covered prepositions. actually it was a dangling participle. But who's counting |

How about those posts that use absolutely NO punctuation and run all their sentences (or worse yet, fragmented sentences) together.
Makes my eyes want to bug out of my head, trying to follow them. And then I have to read it again to try and understand their point. I must be getting old and crotchety... I'm heading for the prozac bottle. |

I dangled my participle once...OUCH! That was painfull!

I was sick that day they covered prepositions. actually it was a dangling participle. But who's counting I was sleeping that day. Does that one work for you? I'm not perfect, but some of this is so basic... also makes for a much clearer message to the reader. |

What are you looking at my participles for, and how would you know if they're dangling? |

I dangled my participle once...OUCH! That was painfull! Way to go, Ph.... I just love your humor. |

I dangled my participle once...OUCH! That was painfull! Way to go, Ph.... I just love your humor. Now I'm heading for the library... have to find out some of the sh!t I've forgotten... like participles and prepositions... and who knows, maybe I'll get a proposition from a sexy male librarian (behind the book participles -- oh, wait, those are partitions... I'm so confused.) |

|
|
|
When my son was about 10, he asked me what a "private tutor" was....
I told him it was someone who teaches you on one-on-one basis... your very own teacher that works with you by yourself. And then, the evil twin stepped in... and I said, "But it can also be someone who farts in the closet with the door closed". He hasn't been right since... Go figure |

I can't take it anymore... I must speak out. For those who need to know, the proper use and spelling of these widespread errors are: W O M A N is the singular form meaning one woman. W O M E N is the plural form, meaning more or all Your vs You're: Your is the possessive... meaning it belongs or is characteristic of YOU You're is the contraction for YOU ARE. It would be so refreshing to see them used correctly. I'm not judging, just respectfully educating. These are extremely common errors. I hope this helps. Done with good intentions. May we also have mention of the importance of the humble paragraph? |

Actually, texting and online forums, chat rooms, etc. have given license to misuse and newly created words, symbols, etc.
It's hard to keep up. But realistically, the younger generation is challenged when it comes to communication skills in the real world. I too, have lost my knack for adding sums in my head, remembering phone numbers, and proper use of grammar. Slang, cell phone memories, speed dial, calculators, and texting have all "robbed" me of some of my once sharp faculties. You know the old saying, "Use it, or lose it."? Well, hauntingly, it's true in many aspects of life. Thanks for humoring me and making light of a pet peeve and my imperfections as well. All in fun... |
