Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever lived in a home with a laundry chute? If so, have you ever thought about jumping through one?

Knew someone who did, and yes I did, and it was almost a disaster.

I can only imagine that if the home was large enough and the laundry chute would be wide enough to fit a human being of any size.

In 1993 or '94, when I was still married, my wife and daughter and I lived in a house that had....not really a laundry chute, per se, but a square hole cut into the floor of the closet in the bedroom, right above the laundry area in the basement. It was nicely made, carpeted all around decently, etc. You just had to drop your dirty clothes through the hole. I was at work one day, and my wife was at home with our daughter (who was about a year old or so at the time) sorting clothes for laundry and tossing them down the hole. My daughter was "helping" Mom, took a mis-step, and went headlong through the hole. Thank GOD there was already a large pile of clothes down there on the concrete floor! My wife was hysterical and called me at work (I don't think I even bothered to hang up the phone, I just ran out to my truck. Didn't even punch out or anything.) I don't think I've ever driven that fast in my life. My daughter was so temporarily traumatized by what happened, she didn't cry, and wouldn't even speak for over an hour. When it finally dawned on her, she cried and wanted Dad. We took her up to the hospital. Thankfully, she had no injuries, she was just really shaken up.

I lost about 10 years off my life that day.
