I'm a longtime smoker who quit about a month ago. I'm dedicated to the decision, but I am hesitant to change the status on my profile since obviously quitting is tough and most who try end up going back. So how much 'probation' do you guys feel is honest and acceptable to go ahead and present yourself as a nonsmoker?

I think if you are serious about it quitting then I would change it. Don't be negative its either you have quit and aren't going to smoke again or you are going to smoke again.

What does it matter? That is something you can cover when you start talking to someone. Don't sweat the click of a button.

If you haven't smoked in a month, change it to non-smoker. You will be reminded you are now a non-smoker. Re-enforce yourself this way, and perhaps, ladies who prefer a non-smoker will come into your life and thus re-enforce it all the more.
That is so great and you are one tough bird to get to this status, so congratulations!!!

I smoked for 15 yrs, quit for 3. When I dated a guy who smoked, I started the habit again, but put it back down rather easily when we broke things off. I call myself a non-smoker. (that and, even when I was a smoker, I was a closet smoker, rarely subjecting the people around me to my fumes)

That's actually my main concern since if a lady flags her profile to not respond if you're a smoker, you can't actually correspond with her. Since it's one of those up front criteria, I think it's important to be as honest as possible. |

If you're serious about quitting and would label yourself a non smoker, then I guess technically that makes you a non smoker.

If ya love someone, and ya havnt smoked in a while, and she dont smoke, I would think you could stay quit out of love and wanting to be with her for as long as possible withot any tubes up your nose.

I'd say if you quit, then you are a non-smoker and you should check that box. If you go back to that habit, then change it back to smoker, but make sure you are honest with the person you are going out with that restarted. That's only fair to them.

Since it's one of those up front criteria, I think it's important to be as honest as possible. Look man, you can't make people want you. They either do or don't. If someone believes that smoking is that important, may-be you don't want to be with them anyway. Who know, may-be they are right. Sometime when they are single with kids, they can at the very least say: "Good thing he wasn't a smoker!" |

why don't you just just click non smoker (because you really did stop right???) and in your profile put, "I proudly quit smoking on this day after this many years"??
that way its out there ya know :) no worries ... after so long.. and you quit. thats awesome |

That's why I put "occasionaly" on my profile...I've never been THAT committed to non-smoking...
