Thanks Quiet. I might be jumping to conclusions. I guess its just the "fear of eating roadkill." That makes me nervous about it. I live in an area where people hunt and then that same day distribute the meat to friends or what not.

im in the middle of cuttin mine up now, it will be cut into steaks and in the freezer by dark,it doesnt have a chance to go bad!!!

I never said that, its just the ick, roadkill thing. I didnt say it was a justifiable concern.

oh i no i was tryin to help you think about it in a good way lol, so people don see this and think im eatin roadkill thats been layin there for 3 days, that wouldn look so good lol

I imagine you woudnt eat it in the summer? But if its been laying in snow, its probably fine. It might even be better. I know a hunter here told me that you need to sneak up on the prey. If the deer runs, then the adrenaline starts pumping and the epinephrine is flowing. This toughens the meat and also makes it more gamy from the sweat. The best is for the buck (or doe) ideally to never see it coming. No fear.

My stepdad hit a deer this week. trashed his Buick.
But it's illegal in Texas to keep a deer you hit with your car (poaching laws) so they left it. My mom went out to look at it the next morning and someone had already cut off the head. They said it had about a 10 point rack

by the way, nice dogs Krimsa

as for what I'm doing today, it's dialysis day for me so I'll be driving into town in a couple of hours and getting my oil changed

In Washington state, (where I moved from this summer), it was also illegal there to pick up road kill. If it was called in soon enough after the animal was hit...game wardens picked it up, cleaned it up and then the meat would be given away to feed the needy. At least it didn't go to waste.
