they think they cant get someone better.. i dont know
the guy that i was with for 3yrs that died 2yrs ago. was verbal abusive and i broke up with him 4times thinking he would change. but of course he didnt. he even felt i needed counsling for my attitude was changing . so i went just to please him and i told the counselor everything and he open my eyes more, even though my family and friends had told me prior. my mom even told me if i had went back to him my attitude would had changed where it was before..

I wonder if they just don't know how to look for anything different. It's hard to go after something that you are not familiar with and even if its bad, its familiar.

once again the kids

I would guess this is the most common reason.

close friend of mine keeps getting herself thrown in jail cause when her bf knocks her around? if she fights back he waits a few days and makes sure the cops see the scratches on him and by then her bruises have faded. and yes she KEEPS ON GOING BACK!!! ... il never understand why some people do that. they break up for a few months and she goes back again .... sigh.

It's some kind of comfort level they could have with the other.

The may be blind to the abuse seeing it as that person loving them and what not.

They are hoping that one will change for the 2857295783275 time. People will only change if they want to.

It is also not uncommon for the one who was previously abused to now be the abuser.

they think they cant get someone better.

you hit the nail on the head with that one... that is the exact reason I kept going back to my ex. Turned out I was WAY wrong about that one, I did get someone better... well, maybe. That one turned into a jerk too.

It has to do with the types of women (or men for that matter). The people that enter into these abusive relationships are people with extremly low self esteem. Usually from a disfunctional family. Sexually abusive, physically abusive, neglected, ect. Also these relationships dont start off abusive and they usually go to mentally abusive before physically. The abuser makes the other feel as though they cant get any better or more often dont deserve any better. The abuser is also telling the spose that they are sorry and it wont ever happen again. They also love their abuser. Its a very sick relationship but u have to remember that the people envolved in these relationships are mentally stable...they usually have some sort of problem before they ever enter into these relationships. They also seeks out a partner that is abusive having learned it from a young age from their parents...wow I really kinda yammered on there, didnt I ? lol
