Welcome to IL, land of the great changing weather!

Where did you move from?

I'm on the Mississippi River about 2.5 hours southwest from Chicago! A week and a half ago we had -34 degree wind chills followed by 50 degree weather this past weekend! Gotta love the massive changes! I was born and raised here so I'm use to it, but as a newcommer, it may take you a while! That is if you ever get use to it!

laugh Hi the four seasons in chicago are:

Almost winter;

Winter;

Still winter;

and Construction;

:banana: :banana: :banana:

to paint a better picture, on say a heavy snow day, you start buy waking up 3-4 hours before you have to be anywhere.
put on 3-4 layers of clothing, grab a shovel and start bigging a trench from your door to your car, then dig out the car.
at this point you may find that the car lock is frozen, you could stand there in the wind chill trying to heat up the key with a lighter(better to use amona in a squirt bottle).
final; after getting in your car, put the key in the ignition, take note, when you turn the key your car is going to speak clearly and in fluent english..."HELLNO.NO.NO.NO.NO....", try it again"NO.NO.No..".

if this happens, do not worry, there is still hope. the only time there is no hope is when turning the key makes the dome light dim out.

if that does happen, at this point you should have a good reason for calling off work.

hope that helps.

Welcome to the Chi. As you probably experienced, last winter was just the pitts. We kept getting dumpted with snow and just when you thought it was over, there came more friggen snow. Omg, I thought I would lose my mind. The best way to get through it in my opinion is to make the best of it and do stuff like snow boarding, ice skating, snow ball fights, etc. As far as the cold, just try to stay in and do fun stuff inside. It lasts clear to the end of May sometimes gradually getting warmer around the end of April.

It doesn't really last that long...

I drop the boat in the water in april, then pull it out in late october. so there's about 4-5 months of actual cold here.

It can be depressing if you don't find some way to take advantage of it. There's a few ski resorts in wisconsin. also, there are some great snowmobile trails up north as well.

As for myself, I can't wait for the annual Chain o lakes ice fishing derby.

There's an old saying here in the Chi; "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute."

Well maybe not technically, but I usually go by when I can start planting my flowers and it's normally almost June before the threat of a frost is behind me.

I'm in Chicago for work for at least 4-6 months from Texas. Nice difference in weather. Would love to find some fun people to hang out with. Very laid back here!
