Topic: Toltec/Discordian | |
---|---|
Hello everyone. I have some not quite traditional religions that I follow. Two to be precise. Toltecs are sorcerors that see energy as it flows through the universe instead of attaching all these social preconceptions to it. Discordians are all geniuses, and we worship Eris, the Roman goddess of Chaos. Toltecs strive for perfection with every breath, because any breath could be the last one you take. The two don't really mix well, but I try to walk a middle path between them.

welcome to the forums Causality,
It sounds like you have found some philosophies or religions that work for you. That's great. You said: Toltecs strive for perfection with every breath, because any breath could be the last one you take.
That's quite commendable but also quite demanding. My only question would be, "What is perfection?". Is perfection believed to be an absolute? Or is perfection subjective? How do they define a "perfect action"? If they are striving for perfection I would think it would only make sense that they have a good definition of what that would ential. Can you share a synopsis of what the Toltecs condider to be perfect actions? Do they list criteria for this in their doctrine or belief system or is it given to the individual practitioners to subjectively decide what perfection means to them? Just curious. |

Welcome, Causality. I, too, would be interested in hearing more if you care to share.

Toltecs view life as fleeting. Any moment could be one's last on Earth. Toltecs keep Death as an advisor. They live knowing that their time here is short. They strive to live each moment as if it was their last on Earth. If what you are doing is the last thing you will ever do, you will do it to the absolute best of your ability. Therefore, they seek to bring prefection to every action, be it sleeping, studying, breathing, walking, or whatever.

Trying to describe discordianism isn't easy.
Is it a religion disguised as a joke, or a joke disguised as a religion? Discordians don't worship Eris, they just acknowledge the importance of chaos. "Hail Eris" - are just words... "Discordianism" - is just a word. It's not about being crazy, spouting bollocks about "five tons of flax" or waving your arms around going "gobble gobble gobble" (although your free to do so if you wish). It is just recommended that you don't take things too seriously, that somebody viewing something through different eyes as yourself will see it as completely different... and both are true and false. Most importantly, just make you own god damn mind up. Books are just words (Bible / Principia Discordia included) words mean nothing, it is just the interpretation of the words that is important. Of course, I am absolutely wrong... This is all false. I eat hot dog buns on a Friday, and it makes me no more or less of a Discordian than Richard T. Filth. |

Eris is Chaos though, isn't she? That's why some of us wear brown, to hide from her. I agree with you that words aren't everything. The second commandment says that we are not allowed to believe what we read. I live that commandment.

which, in turn, means that I proved to myself that both the Toltec and Discordian religions that I follow are actually true, amd not just printed words.

If i truly lived every moment as if it was my last I would always have a beer in my hand and be drinking it between breathing. I always pictured myself getting hit by a meteorite as I take that last refreshing sip... ahhhhh.

Reposted From Witchcraft and Shamanism, part 2, page 5:
Go from normal human to something more in six steps. step one: make a list of everyone you have met. step two: (generally a couple years later) starting with the most recently met person and working backwards, find a quiet and dark place to sit and meditate. While meditating, you think back and vividly remember every detail of your interactions with said person; remembering every senses' input as well as your own emotions and thoughts at the time. While doing that, your head turns from your left shoulder to your right one slowly while you take in a long slow breath. As you breathe, visualize fibers of light flowing back into you from the memory scene you recreated. These strings made of light are your own emotional and personal energy. Once your head makes it to your right shoulder, you should be done with that particular scene. (As far as the timing of the meditation goes.) Turn your head facing forward and slowly exhale, visualizing other fibers of light, (not your own energy but that person's thoughts or concerns that made it into you) as they leave your body through the exhale. Repeat this for each encounter with said person where you felt an emotion. Once you have finished that person (all the encounters with them) move down your list and repeat. (You aren't done with step two until you have finished Mom and Dad, the first people you met.) step three: find the center of you. Imagine a line going out from there straight ahead. (depends on the body in question, generally a bit below the navel.) measure off 40 degrees to the right of that imaginary line, around two feet out from your skin. At that spot, massage the air, as if you are playing a harp. (waggle your fingers there.) This spot is not part of your physical body, but it is a very important part of your energy body. After a while, you will slowly begin to feel your fingers moving through something, a resistance. Keep waggling the fingers, as you feel the resistance, move them a little closer to your body and repeat. You may feel a tickle, or pleasure from doing this. Once you feel that you have created enough of a dent there, proceed to step four. step four: hyper stimulate the nerve endings near the skin of your right calf. (I recommend pants made of a very furry or fuzzy fabric, with the fuzziness being inside the pants) step five: bring your right calf as close as you can get it to the dent you made in your energy body. Once you have completed the above five steps, you will have your normal waking awareness step back, shifting control to your dreaming attention. When this happens, it feels like you get rolled up like a cigar and placed into the dent you made. Then proceed to step six. Step six: To switch to sorceror mode, simply let your eyes glance at the dent you made. To switch back to normal mode, just look at your physical body instead. That's it. We're done. -Causality |

Interesting combination. I never perceived Toltecs striving for perfection but they did see the need to strip away the convoluted thoughts, beliefs, and ideas of others to find their own Truth, minus the Ego. The doesn't translate to perfection to me, but not following others expectations. The Warrior does what's right, because they know the Truth as they perceive it.

it's deeper than that though, as the form of the warrior was created by the Toltecs' mastery of intent (their connection with everything and therefore with God and the Universe) and their will. This form of the warrior, was a mood of sorts that came over those who strived for it. A perfect warrior needs no weapon, for he himself is the weapon. He needs help from no one, as everyone is indeed alone, even when we are surrounded by crowds, we are all apart as well. This form, when assumed by someone seeking it, made absolutely everything unnecessary. Anything the solitary warrior could need was all included in the form of the perfect warrior that was made and still exists today. It's just no one taps it anymore.

They knew that Death could claim anyone, anywhere, and at anytime. By living each moment as if it was the last one you would ever live, they embodied perfection. If what you are doing right now was the last thing you would ever do, you would do it perfectly. Death lets us know that there isn't time to screw around. |
