Topic: "Who's Viewed Me" Non-Posters | |
---|---|
Just happened to be traipsing around the site this a.m. before the Pepsi
kicks in, and I noticed that the majority of the people on my "Who's Viewed Me" list are people I have never seen posting in the forums. I don't know that this even really means anything; it may be a simple function of the math involved -- how many "lurkers" are there per poster? I have no idea. Based on my experiences some years back, with several Usenet groups, I would imagine it's at least 10-1, but that's based more on history and inertia than it is on anything tangible. More to the point: I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want to join in on the posting. It's fun, you learn things, you get to meet a lot of great people, you can work on your typing skills -- and it seems to me that there really is no other way to generate any kind of attention here other than by posting. Lurkers don't get noticed. Except maybe when they show up in "Who's Viewed Me." I suppose someone might sign up solely for the purpose of checking out locals and maybe e-mailing them, trying to meet someone that way. And maybe that works. But to me, there's so much more to this site.... |

You're right Lex and to be honest I don't email or Im anyone I haven't
seen out for an airing. That's how I get a feel for people by reading what they post. Been at this long enough now the min someone I have never seen post wants to IM me it sends up a flag. |

I have had a few local ladies email me that never post. I lost my yahoo
account that I was keeping in touch with them and have emailed them here on JSH with no response. They haven't even checked their email. So there are some who join, look around, email a few and poof, their gone. |

I've been here a little over two months and have been viewed 1,097
times. I don't know if that means one person has viewed me X number of times or if that's the number of different people. And I've gotten a lot of email but nowhere near 1,000 of them. If they wanna look, let 'em look. Could be they clicked on my picture to enlarge it and said, OMG....and ran like hell. |

No prob, chikita, I put up a new pic today (the "Full House Career
Pyramid" which I find amusing for some reason) which no one will recognize right off the bat -- The thing that interests me about this topic is that I figure these people are looking at my profile solely because they read something I posted. Let's face it, I'm all over these threads; and no one who looks at my profile is ever anywhere near my area, so I doubt if I'm turning up on too many local searches in Canada and New York and California. But if they're reading the forums anyway, why not say hi, introduce yourself, tell a joke, share a poem, toss out a topic or an opinion or advice on raising chichillas or something. The way I figure it, everyone has something to say. Here's the perfect place to say it. |

Hi Lex.
Of the 9 people who have viewed me in the short time I have been here, 5 are from the forums, 2 I have not noticed in here yet and 1 is just plain scarey, but I deleted him! I will often look at threads and find I don't wish to post in them, or not feel I have anything fresh to add. |

Just a thought
but I was reading through all of this and was curious Has anyone wrote any of the people that have viewed you and tried to bring them into the forums Some people are more shy than others Once again just a thought |

I don't think of it as lurking...I use viewing to see if I think there
could be a connection...and if someone has viewed me I think if they do not contact me then there is something about me that isn't attractive and I don't give it a second thought..I thought that was how it works |

Imbroglia, Hi,
that's been tried elsewhere, some people did not want to join in, some came in once and were never seen again, some could get quite rude about being disturbed. So I think if someone wants to join in they will if not, there is no way of making them. |
