The dictionary says it is intellectual, moral, or spiritual improvement; enlightenment. This word is not mentioned in the Old Testament but is found in the New Testament four times.

Roman 15:2

1Co 14:3

2Co 10:8

2Co 13:10

What does edification mean to you?

"In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility" (Titus 2:7).

"...Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification" (1 Corinthians 14:26).

What it means to me is that we are commissioned to encourage and build up each other in the body of Christ.

I like what you had to say, Britty. I think that is why our pastor ask sometimes of the congregation, "Can I get an amen?" At one time he even said if one of us had something to share to go ahead and he would sit down.
