Have you read the Newsweek article?
THE COVER STORY - no less!

http://www.newsweek.com/id/172653/page/3

So what do you think?

Why do you suppose Christians are so upset over the story - so upset Newsweek had to take down the "comments section" after the article - due the enormous volume it was receiving - over 20,000 emails (the first day) opposing the article.

I thought it was well written, the author used credible sources and even used scripture to back up what she was saying.

I wonder what the opponents are complaining about?

I read it and I had a little debate in the Barnes & Noble today with some random a$$hole who had stationed himself beside the magazine section in order to give people buy they magazine a hard time.

He said his church sent him there.

If that's true well....

I let him know in polite terms just what I thought of his "service" and let him know I had a few minutes to speak to the management about people being preached to while trying to buy magazines.

Makes all sorts of sense to me.

Agents of the church who don't want people to read...after all there is historical precedent for that isn't there?

If they don't like secular publications I suggest they read and heed the Bible...if nothing else it will be fun to watch

Newsweek thought they could pick and choose and distort the bible verses to fit their gay agenda and it blew up in their face.Do you really think the Christians are stupid enough to buy this BS?Newsweek made a fatal error as it no doubt pissed off a great deal of Christians and it will be no surprise when subsriptions are cancelled and sales go down. This could be the final nail in the coffin of newsweek as sales are already down and this no doubt will hurt their bottom line.I don't read newsweek but will fully support a boycott.

sounds like the pick and chose can go either way now

so that must mean they negate each others argument

so thier is no biblical argument because

it is a contradiction within its self

Their gay agenda? What is that?

What error did they make?

I'm a Christian. I want to know all unbiased facts. I like to read opinions too. It helps me to not be close minded.

RE: Thomas3474

LGBT people have committed no crime against society or nature, so why shouldn't they have a right to marry?

And, if you don't know this already, homosexuality is natural. Many animals practice homosexual behavior.

I would like an answer. To be more specific, it'd be great if your answers aren't one of the following: "It's wrong," "It's gross." "It contradicts the Bible."

You're right that gay marriage might be contradicted in the Bible, but our government is secular - we separate Church and State. Thus, whether gay marriage is legal needs to be a decision made without religion factoring into the picture.

Finally, marriage has, historically, been more like a legal contract than anything. The argument that marriage is primarily a religious ceremony then doesn't really hold water.

hahah A whole lot of so called Christians pick and choose Bible verses too.

I put up a bunch of verse on marriage here on another thread as proof.

When I read that I had a nice Sunday morning laugh.

Hypocrites at worst.

Selective reads at best.

Sheep either way.

I woke up today with feeling little tolerance for the follies of humans.

Tell me it isn't true?

Tell me Catholics, Lutherans, Baptist...or any other collection of so called Christians don't selectively follow the Bible.

You can't because you know it is true.

Like I said

Hypocrites at worst.

Selective reads at best.

Sheep either way.

They don't follow the book they just thump others with it.

Your right, they aren't stupid enough to fall for 'this BS'.

They already fell for the ORIGINAL BS.
Why exchange anything when the original still suits the christian agenda.

snakes don't talk, that is a very common false teaching of many churches. Eve didn't eat any apple either but most Christians would rather believe what some pastor says just because of his title than research, question and look for answers themselves, talking snakes, laugh

Red, much of the Christian conservative movement is threatened by any attempt to make gays human in any way, they know it's harder to be against something others see as human.

They will fight tooth and nail to prevent anyone from distilling their rigid belief system and gaining a foot hold. They are scared spitless to of having to change their whole mindset and more afraid that people will start thinking for themselves and making decisions with out their sanction and permission.

If the bible is wrong about homosexuality... hmmm, what else might it be wrong about? Why then would you necessarily believe anything it says..

Yes well that's the FREE enterprize system at its best to put out of business a bunch of liars & their revisionist POV that many are not buying. They won't stay in business if people don't buy.

From the so called news orgs to public radio that was an abysmal failure. I think that is the only thing that speaks volumes. The silent rebuke.

I just realized that that article start above, not on page 3. Skipping some interesting reading. Matters little to me either way because we will always end up having the same argument with the same people forever. But still interesting for those with an open mind, and heart.

I appreciate their willingness to talk about differing points of view. They may very well get more subscribers to make up for those they might lose. You aren't going to get another point of view from the conservative mags on the issues of gays. If you do, be sure to let me know, so far I haven't seen any.
