Somewhere along life's path I started reading the Bible, and somebody somewhere explained their faith to me. Had it not been for that event, I would have died years ago.

My father is and was a terrible man. My grandfather was even worse. I am determined that the buck stops here. I try my best to grow, and to be teachable. If I figure out new ways to adjust, I do try to adjust.

It is never easy, but the joy comes from seeing the fruit.

Tomorrow, at 46 years old, I will earn a Bachelor's degree. It is a huge event for me. Statistically, only 24% of those who live in the U.S. have a Bachelor's degree.

It doesn't heal me completely of all things formerly abusive... but it sure does wonders for my self-esteem.

Say a "hoorah" for this guy tomorrow (Sunday) at 2pm EST.

Not only am I graduating, but I am graduating with honors, one of only 20 in a class of 500 to graduate tomorrow. And of that 20, I am also inducted as a McNair Scholar, and the first McNair Scholar to graduate from this university ever. That puts me in the top .223% of this graduating class.

The director of the McNair Scholars program has told me the President of the college is going to acknowledge me before all of my classmates tomorrow as the most outstanding graduate of this class.

To hell with the past... I forge on for the future, sword in hand.

Thanks Ali...

... the college sort of became a healing hospital for me years ago right after my divorce.

Now I am seriously considering a career as a college professor. I am already registered for more classes in January, which will start me on the path to earning a Master's degree.

I have no intention on stopping until I get my Ph.D.... somewhere along about May of 2015..... LOL

Dr. TelephoneMan..... hahahahah

Love it!!

Looks like its about time for the station to go off the air for the night... so I figured I'd do Woody and Feral the honors of playing the Star Spangled Banner....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qciWEufZ2xA (click me, click me...)

"Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,

O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?

And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?"

Although your past is just that, the past, it is also your future. We are who we are from what we have experienced and who we have met. It tells us what we want and what we do not want. What to do and what not to do. Without a past, we are empty.

I agree; and our future and those we will meet changes as our present and those we surround ourselves with happens, shaped by our past and those we have met.

My past and who I have met has made me more real and less real. Very traditional - almost rigid when it comes to old-fashioned family values, but far beyond my time in other ways most people would not dream of. My past and those I have met has made me shy and cocky. It has brought me a sense of accomplishment and shame. It has taken away my sense of trust.

My past has made me a very spiritual person, but caused me to stop practicing religion. It has made me needy and selfish. It has caused me to be very desiring of pure love, not necessarily sex. My past has made me emotional and very pessimistic. My past has made me kinky, but more prudish than many. My past has caused me to become isolative and reclusive, yet open and very giving in my work and to those I have befriended online.

In my case, my past and the experiences I have had have caused me to make the mistake of usually choosing what I already know I do not want, doing what I already know not to do. Because of my past, I feel I have given too much of myself, and I am empty today.
