I would certainly use the history as a bargaining tool to try knock down the price.

They might tell you that this has already been factored into the price, but you dont have to agree with them.

Probably depends on your belief and the culture you come from.

I think it depends on your imagination Twilights, I bought a home that everyone said was haunted..I actually got a great deal on it because nobody woould buy it..I remodled, and moved in..other then the normal settling, never once heard or saw a ghost...if you have a hyperactive imagination..I guess it would be a bad idea! Good Luck and you will have great place for Halloween!!

I like the home because the price is right. Its a big home with a lot of class. Beautiful chandeler, big fireplace....built in bookcases, large bedrooms, the formal dining room has great big oak sliding doors...I think its beautiful

It sounds beautiful.

Thanks! Im exicited!

sounds too good to pass up

I say go for it

and if any ghosts show up make em some cookies

I was thinking of getting a doghappy

Any other house listed at this price is in "good" condition at best and has half the space. regardless of what happened in what room and when its in great shape and very classy. It even has and old 3 lamp iron lightpost out front. i will hopefully be closing on it next week.

I did plan on underbidding it a tad, but its already under market value.

Its true, they dont build them like they used to. I like solid doors...real wood, not particle board and hollow panels

I lived in an old farm house when i was young that was once a funeral home. And while i don't remember in particular i know that if i was left alone in a room i would get nervous because i felt like someone was still in the room with me. Also my Mom, Uncles, and Aunts grew up there and they have alot of stories of things moving across the room, and such like that.

Anyway, if you do buy the house, i want to sleep there for a night just to say i slept in an old funeral home! drinker

But you are the market, it is worth whatver you want to pay for it. Dont forget when you go to sell it, it will still have this history. Sometimes cheeky offers can get accepted..

Thanks for the advice, I'll take it. Even if I did pay they asking price which was recently reduced...I feel Im getting a great deal (compared to the 46 other houses I've browsed).

That is what puts you in a stronger position. If they reject your offer you can come back straight away with a better one and not lose out on the deal.

The price has been reduced because of falling markets. You can tell them that you foresee future drops too, and are not confident that it is a good buy.

Its a buyers market at the moment. There are lots of people getting desperate to sell. (I am kinda guessing this is true, i dont actually know a thing about the area you are buying it in).

With all that added to the history, which you can tell them reduces your confidence about it being a good investment, and that you are concerned about being able to sell it on, you have a few things to fight them with.

And then the next thing to do, is get a proper survey of the property done, an independant one. You may find that the roof or something is in need of repair. Further ammunition!

You have to play these games.

I used to work in a furniture store that used to be a funeral home. It never bothered me, although people would comment on it. I have also lived in haunted homes, not by choice, it happens.

It's nothing to be fearful of, if things happen the ghost might want recognized, so acknowledge them or tell them to be quiet, etc. This can happen in newer homes, too. Remember, they're ghosts and they can travel. laugh

Enjoy your new home with your family. It sounds perfectly lovely.

Is it not usually all done over the phone?

Here in the UK, the banks send in there own surveyor(Im guessing its much the same thing as an appraiser) to make sure the property is worth pretty much what it is being sold for. They are just making sure that their loan to you is not too risky. The surveyor will not usually spend more than 5-10 minutes looking around, to count the bedrooms and measure up, they dont usually do a proper structural survey, or look at anything in depth for that matter. Thats why i suggested an independant surveyor, as there is more chance that they will come back with something you could use. They can be worth their weight in gold.

And if the roof, say, is in need of repair, you wanna know about it beforehand regardless.
