My day started out very good fueled and then on my way.
The sun was out, heading to Houston on this day.
Delivery my load then I would be on my way back home.
The life of a truck driver, across the country I will roam.

I was on my way and sure to reach my ending goal.
Stopped in Oklahoma to pay there highway toll.
Going through the gears, looking forward to getting down the road.
Looking forward to making my delivery and getting my next load.

What would happen in the next few seconds would change everything.
A traveler missed the toll, his decision, the repercussions it would bring.
He decided to turn around, go back to pay them the money due.
Slowing down, starting to make a u-turn he never had a clue.

As the car turned. It came across right in front of my truck.
I pushed as hard as I could on the brakes, but there was no luck.
As I prayed the truck would stop. I could see a lady sleeping in the seat.
The metal crushed, the glass blowing out, my heart skipped several beats.

The driver got out of the car unaware of what he had just done.
He kept trying to talk to his wife but the response was none.
I dialed 911 to get help fast onto the scene.
All the glass. The blood, I feared of what it would mean.

After what seem like hours, they removed her from the mangled mess.
As the helicopter took off, there health I could only guess.
Police said “ there was nothing I could have done to stop what took place.
But it can not stop me from continuing to see this poor lady’s face.

After weeks of not much sleep. Hoping the pictures in my head will fade.
I found out they was going to be alright, after alot of phone calls where made.
Now if I could stop it from playing over and over inside my head.
I thank god that on that day no one ended up dead.

So when you are out there on our highways and byways.
Please remember to think before you leap, then we all have good days.
This will have a long lasting effect on all involved that afternoon.
Your life as you know it today, a little inattention, it can change to soon.
