Happily employed, nurses are still in demand.

this is just it. how many in non-skilled trades are just sitting back and whining about losing their job instead of being in industries like yours where the demand is still high? I will not help those that do not help themself.

Speaking of jobs.

It's a small world but I wouldn't want to paint it.

Im working and my job is not in danger just the pay! It would be nice if all those lazy people got off of their azz and went to school. It shouldnt be to hard. I mean college is so affordable and all. Heck they dont have to worry about their kids! Someone will watch and take care of them.Someone will pay the mortgage and the heating bill in the winter.. How can people be so dam lazy!!! Heck to be a Rn like Catwoman only takes going to college for 4 years full time. ...I mean really, what are people thinking!!!So dam inconsiderate.

If everyone ran out and studied to become a nurse the market would be flooded with workers and guesse what? the wages would collapse as well as benefits. Lets see them start importing some nurses from India for five bucks an hour and see what happens at your next review. Hey that may be a good idea to bring down the insane costs of health care:wink:

Oh it was so easy to get my RN,
First 1 yr school full time, to get LPN
Then after working full time for a while and having two kids, I did a distance learning program, that translates to self study.
Working fulltime, two kids at night by myself, it took 5K, paid up front and 4 and 1/2 yrs to complete. For a 2 yr Assoc. degree. NOT EASY. If it was easy everyone would do it. Thats just the school part, the next thing is can you handle the work itself.

I am not knocking nurses I have dated many, verry few of them actualy impressed me with their IQ's though. I am sure if a person can read, write and comprehend it wouldnt be all that hard to do. Its a matter of will I suppose. the point being made is, If the market were flooded with five dollar an hour indian nurses, even the best nurses would have their wages driven down.

Oh, yeah, it's hard to do. Those science classes are NOT easy. I'm not a nurse but I've taken science classes for my field.

It takes more then being able to read. There's studying every night, memorizing, understanding anatomy and physiology, advanced math, clinicals. I think they take chemistry too.

It's not easy, Madisonman. Like Michiganman said, "If it was easy, anyone could it." Not everyone can do it.

When it involves science, it's not even like a business class, advertising, or art.

I would say 90% of high school grads could do it if they had the will. again Iam not knocking nurses. I worked with a guy who did this he was emotionaly unstable, not verry bright but hated his job so he did it. Good for him. Its a truth that just about anyone can do what they set themselves to do if they choose. I know many single mothers who got alot of aid to go the nurseing route while on welfare or other types of state support. I do not knock them or put them on a pedastal either. Lets face it we all have to do math, read and memorize things every day in our jobs. My car pool buddies daughter is a nurse and we have honest frank conversations. He said a few days ago that he is suprised she made it as a nurse being she makes so many bad decisions. she graduated second in her class by the way.

and btw..I work in a resource pool...which means i fill staffing holes for about 30-40 different floors between two downtown hospitals. I do med/surg and progressive care units. some patients are easy to take care of...but if you think it doesnt take years of training and thinking to get the freaking throught process down and doesnt require much INTELLIGENCE...then you are dead wrong. nursing school is tough. just to make it through the clincal program is crazy. then I went and worked in an ICU for 1 1/2 years..taking care of people on vents, trached patients, keeping peoples BP level so they dont crash or stroke out or something. watching subtle signs such as urinary output and the amount of ectopy on my monitor. for TWELVE hours. making sure my easy postop patient doesnt develop pnemonia from laying on his ass and not deep breathing.

it not only requires intelligence it requires motivation and assessments. and nerve. and heart.

lots of different abilities to be a nurse..and we are ALWAYS learning.

sounds fairly typical of most jobs. I remain unimpressed and secretly wondering if your realy all that great of a nurse being you spend alot of your working time on this forum. I am not looking for an argument I stated my opinion and I am fine to agree to disagree. Have a good night and dont work to hard. Myself I am off untill JAN 5 with pay. My company is one of the few doing well in the auto industry being ford made is their new sole supplier for axles. Oh the job is so hard dealing with customers, testing the steel hardness, looking for cracks in the steel with the magnaflux unit. measuring with micrometers and recording the data, about thirty measurements. communicating with engineering and management when things go wrong, learning all the new part numbers and customer requirments, setting the robots correctly for each new part and the automatic inspection machines and trouble shooting all the automated systems when they foul up,lifting 7,000 lb loads with a crane, etc etc, somedays I wish I was a nurse so I could smile at sick people and make them feel better rather than serving these mechanical monsters. but we all make our choices and do what we must to survive.

and btw enjoy your winter off break....and if ya wanna be a nurse...you are young perhasp if you think you had the mindset it might not be a wate of time to pursue. keep in mind though..sick people are very very hard to deal with sometimes.
sometimes I wish I could be a waitress and take orsers all day. or sell veges at a roadside farm.

but I made the decision to be a nurse..and although Im probably not the best one in the world...and I do have many learning experiences to go through..alls I can do is try. and I dont always smile...but I do trybigsmile

sometimes its nice to get online when I have a few minutes and relax. joke. it makes work easier. and im on the computer 1/3 of my night documenting crap anyhow.

I've been unemployed since March. My unemployment is almost out. Good news though, I've finished taking a Pharmacy Technician Course at the Community College and am scheduled to take the Cert Test mid January. Once I'm certified, there should be a job.
