Interesting that they can not truely see something the size of jupiter at that distance... Yet they claim to be able to detect a molecule?

It's got to be spectroscopy.

And surely it's a whole cloud of molecules, not just one.

At least that would be my guess.

I have no clue, I didn't read the article.

Absolutely there is life out there, the universe is abundant with energy, the single most fundamental thing needed for anything to exist. to say there isn't life out there to me is like saying out of all the volumes in the washington library only one book has the letters d,n and a on the same page.

i believe it's possible....not to mention rather wacked if you don't think it could be possible. I mean seriously. It is all in front of us and some people let religion get in the way...like my pap. and I am openminded enough...not to mention I have watched shows like stargate that have expanded my horizons to believe it is possible. until the government truly lets the planet know that it exists we will never know..but maybe someday I will have a spaceship..

I hope when the day comes that life out there finds us that the life doesn't take one look at us and say "no intelligent life here" laugh

Ever wonder if maybe there is a big multi-planet party going on in the center of our galaxy and we are stuck out here on the edge missing all the fun?

We live in the Milky Way boon docks. tears

I believe there is life out there and that they are steering clear of this side of the galaxy. We would just try to catch them and run tests on them and start a war that we can't win with them. "We are the most technologically advanced life form there is." That's the general thought from the masses. We are full of ignorance, stupidity and arrogance.

I agree. The ones that are technological more advance as we are could probably be staying away from us. We are seen as primitive in their eyes and they want nothing to do with us.

I also believe that there is life out there that is totally different then how we describe aliens to be. In other words their ways of survival is not compehensible in our human minds.

To say there's no other life out there would be ignorant since it can't be proved or disproved. But to say aliens are coming to our planet and abducting ( hicks and cookoo heads) and the best photo we can get is some blurred image from a ****ty camera to me is non-sense. We got satelites we can access via google earth and such that can pick up an image of a quarter on the sidewalk of some hillbilly town but no concrete photos of ufo's . So i say blah blah blah there's more important things to concern ourselves with right here on planet earth.

I believe that we have evolved enough now and understand our world well enough to understand that the chances are good that there is other life out there somewhere.

I however disagree with the above statement, no offense intended of course, if there is life out there and if they had the capability to travel here, which is a great feat considering the time and distance then we may not know they are here at all. Their technology would be beyond our imagination.

The molecule, called glycolaldehyde, was spotted in a large star-forming area of space around 26,000 light-years from Earth in the less-chaotic outer regions of the Milky Way. This suggests the sugar could be common across the universe, which is good news for extraterrestrial-life seekers.

Me personally, I believe there is life out there; intelligent life. We have found proof of viruses and other microorganisms in space before this, and it is just too unfeasable to believe, not to mention arrogant, that we are the only inteligent life in total existence.

If there IS intelligent life out there, let's hope they have the good sense to stay the heck away from us- it'd be for their own good.
