OK.... This is something I just wrote:

WOW...... You are so pretty. BTW, this is only a comment. I'm not trying to start something. Alot of ladies take it wrong when I comment on their pictures. I'm just saying that I think you are very pretty.

Does anyone have any idea why some ladies think that sounds aragant. I can see if you walked up to a stranger in a bar, and said, "Hey, you're hot." That may notbe the most appropriet thing to say. But, saying that as a comment online........

it's not appropriate bc you do not know that person..."hey, you're hot"--wow...really? can't men come up with some conversation?? anytime someone makes a reference to how i look, i can tell you i want nothing more to do with them, since that's all they see in me...how i look...bleh...

If I get a mail that says simply, Wow you are pretty....

I delete.

Immediately.

A person cannot control how they look, nor is that what they want in a response. Talk about the profile, did you read it? What interested you? Yes, looks matter but if that is all I hear, it is superficial and yes, creepy.

If you are sending one line e-mails, I doubt you will ever, ever get a date on here. That is just ridiculous. It is lame, it is generic, and it is laziness epitomized. Try a little empathy and consideration.

I don't mind the compliment, but if they make that kind of compliment, I hope they also read my profile so that they know I may be pretty on the outside, but I'm gorgeous on the insides!!!
And, some people are pretty and handsome in their pics, and you can kind of tell they are also pretty and handsome on the inside, with or without reading their profiles.... so, unless they are creepy in an email, like "got any nude pics, gorgeous", I just send a thanks!!!

OK.... I always thought of it as, people always try to look nice. It's not a crime to tell them that thier doing a good job.

People are born looking the way they look. If you appreciate a hairstyle, whatever.... that could be appropriate.

If you say someone is pretty, that is not unlike saying, wow, your parents possessed great genes and they got passed to you, and I just want to comment to you about things you cannot control, and have nothing to do with who you are inside.

Ain't nothing wrong with a simple compliment man. You might try a different approach. Small talk...a bit of conversation pertaining to her interests...then casually slip in the "This is just a compliment" thing....

Just a thought man.....it works for me.

Krupa, it is a nice thought. However, the message he sends reads only,

"Wow you are pretty".

I'm glad it made you laugh. When I get such trivial and superficial mails like yours, I am not laughing. Not hardly. Think of how you write, think of how it might be perceived. Be tactful, be sincere, and good god don't be superficial.

Lil..... When you meet people on the net, you can't really go by the profile. People are not very good judges of themselves. Like, me. I think I'm an ok guy. I do what I can. Some people think I'm great. I don't see it. So, like, my profile on MYSPACE says that I'm pretty much a loser, because I wouldn't say that I'm a really great guy. I could be more of a saint if I wanted and I don't know as much as I should. But, where I am is just fine for me.........

You go by the profile or you use another avenue to date, k? What the heck are you even talking about, anyhow?

I don't think there is anything wrong with your compliment as long as it is either preceded by or included in a larger, more intellectual comment. A better idea might be to save the physical comments until a more meaningful connection is in place. I see you have met lil, who IMO is the resident psychologist that will roast you on a spit if your opinion marginally deviates from her own. But, anywho.....

What the heck to I know? :)

Ohh, that's sad! Obviously we've never talked or debated in way shape or form so you have no basis as to what I will do if your opinion deviates from mine.

That makes me sad you assumed that....

Or that my posts were anything other than my opinion, which was implied in your passive aggressive post.

I posted my opinion, you post yours. But insulting me, in a post directed at the OP, well...

Once again, I agree with you, Adreneline 100%... One-liner emails, ie "U R Hawt!" are a waste of my time & get deleted. But if someone starts a nice lil convo & says "BTW, I also think you're very pretty...", I find no offense in it. But you can't fault some of the ladies for appearing a bit jaded...f you could read some of the crap that is sent to us...you'd burn your "Man Card"...
