I've been a MESA/Boogie fan for many years. Mainly love their clean sound, actually... but I stopped lugging them around for a few years because they were just too damned heavy... until I found my cute little Subway Rocket Reverb... 35 pounds and 22 very loud watts... loud enough for anything I do... mainly electric blues, but not metal or anything like that...

I also play straight-ahead jazz standards, and the Boogie makes a nice warm sounding jazz amp... some folks don't like the Boogies because they are sort of "Warm" (compared to other amps that have more treble bite)

Another amp I had at one time was an Evans Custom Amplifiers JE-120... until I loaned it to some girl years ago, and she brought it back smoking out of the inpute... I was soooo pissed... like a $1,200 amp... learned my lesson about loaning out stuff the hard way...

The Evans is VERY crystal clear... it is a solid-state amp, and will not distort even on ten... it is primarily a steel guitar guy's amp, but I bought it for all of the extremely cool jazz tones I could find with an arch top and a set of 12's...

I met the son of the owner of Evans amps at a blues jam in Greensboro, NC... he was always telling me about the amps him and his dad made... until one day I drove out... OMG... such damned tone... I had to have one after that...

I still have the JE-120, but I need to send it back to have Evans go over it and see whatever it is this person did to it to blow it up... Its been sitting in my closet now for like 3 years...

http://www.evansamps.com/

The Evans amps are more famous in Nashville around the pedal steel crowd... made crystal clear so you can hear all of them pedal steel strings individually... works fantastic as a jazz amp... and if you do want to throw a stomp box in front, the amp doesn't color the pedal or the guitar, so it is like having a top-shelf hi-fidelity guitar amp that can be tailored to any tone you like via stompers...

Sounds like a cool amp, the Express can do clean REALLY well; probably one of the best clean sounds I've ever heard. I like the kind that just barely breaks up when you grind into the strings. As picky as I am with guitars, I'm twice as picky with amps hahaha.

Carvins have a thing called "Snagg" which is a microchip they install under the fretboard so if the guitar is stolen it can be scanned to reveal the original owner. I put the "Snagg" tag on the kazoo as a joke bigsmile

In all my years of playing I've only had 1 guitar stolen. I had a 69 blonde fender strat with a c radius blonde neck- blonde body. I played it onstage alot through a marshall jmp stack. One gig, turned my back and it was gone. The guy who stole it had a big mouth. He sold it. I never recovered it. I confronted The asshole who stole it with a few of my big biker freinds and he apologized and apologized. I didn't let my freinds beat him up. We just walked. I explained I'd get him when he least expected it. This clown played in a band. One night his band played a club on a hillside and I noticed his olds 98 parked on the edge of a cliff. I parked my black 4 wheel drive across from his car and waited. When the band was playing and there was no witnesses I eased the truck in 4 wheel drive and pushed his car off the sheer cliff. It landed on its roof 160 feet below. Then I went home. Paybacks are a *****. He died 2 years ago from aids. He shot up drugs.

We did however get a lot of wrecked equipment during the 80s. And I mean a lot. Being in a self destructive rock band you never knew what was going to happen. Lots of scars and war stories you just possibly couldn't make up. So here we go!!!! I've changed the names to protect the guilty. Innocent? Noones innocent!

In 1985 we were on a little circle jerk tour of the south. We had an asshole manager that gave us sh!t bar gigs that basically got us by. So we are in this fleabag motel in orlando florida. Gettin drunk. Gettin high. I didn't trust the neighborhood so I pulled my complete marshall stack out and brought it in the motel room along with my 59 gibson melody maker. I jammed a bit and then layed my guitar flat on its back on top of the amp when everyone started b!tchin that johnny carson was on. So we sat there f*cked up laughin at carson. That's when all hell broke loose. My guitar falls off the amp crashing to the floor breaking the headstock off. We all jumped. Then we look up at the amp and there's an 8 inch long cockroach up there (that got under my guitar and pushed it off). We attacked! We grabbed cans of hairspray (which us 80s hairbands had plenty of) and lighters and flamethrowered that cockroach around the room and taking out half the room in the process. The curtains, the bed linens, the carpet. We got that big sonofab!tch and nailed him to the wall crucified for all to see. What a mess.

I also played with a group of guys part time. One of the guitar players- let's call him desmond said "Hey check it out! I can do eddie van halen hula hoops!" so he plays a little and then throws the guitar at a perpendicular angle and it goes up over his shouder, down to the ground and back up into his hands just like a hula hoop compliments of his guitar strap. Steve vai and eddie van halen both were doing this. But both eddie van halen and steve vai had strap locks anchoring their straps to their guitar. Desmond did not. So yup you guessed it- he's doing these hula hoops with his 75 gibson les paul deluxe and it comes off the strap, flies across the stage, lands on a concrete floor crashing in a million pieces. Worse he starts crying and the crowd taunts him with chants of "DO IT AGAIN!!"

And how about the drunk during a show who walks up to the stage and leans against the towering stage monitor speakers thinking they are immovable objects and they tumble and crash down on him and land him in the hospital. That's happened twice. Once a drunk leaned into them. Second time two guys were fighting and one guy threw the other guy into the monitors causing the domino 1000 pounds of speakers to come crashing down on them both knocking them both out and putting them both in the hospital. We couldn't stop f*cking laughing because one of the mid cabinets was perfectly on this guy. His arms and legs sticking out on both sides. So my singer had to give him hell because the monitor was still live and plugged into those old crown amps. So this speaker is on top of this guy face down holding him to the ground and my singers yelling over the microphone "SO, HOW DOES THAT FEEL ASSHOLE?!!! YOU'RE A F*CKIN DUMBASS!!! YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GOT!!! IF YOU CAN HEAR ME WIGGLE YOUR FINGERS!!! WELL I WILL JUST SCREAM LOUUUUUDEERRRRR!!! AUGHHHHH!!! EIEEEEEEE!!!" That guy is probably permanently deaf from that. The rest of us had tears rolling down our faces. My freaking sides were sore. That whole night was a freaking twilight zone. A drunk crashed a car through the front door. One fight turned into a barroom brawl complete with flying lone star and bud tallneck bottles. At the end of the night the bar owner - a little korean lady blamed it all on us. "You guys mean! You guys cwazy! You play devil music! Yoo kill my customers!" What a freaking riot! Gonna remember that night the rest of my life.

A few pages back I posted a picture of my Subway Rocket Reverb... it is basically the 10" Express, minus some bells and whistles

only 35lbs...

Here' my little MESA/Boogie Combo... has a 10" speaker, not a 12"... light... which is the reason I bought it... not one of those knuckle-buster Boogies... 35 pounds, that's it... 22 loud-as-hell watts... does everything I need... if it needs to be louder than this, the mic needs to come my way...

(Unknown year) Not in production anymore MESA/Boogie Subway Rocket Reverb

Or, it has an incredible direct out on it, too... which works great in the studio... plus you can turn the speaker off if you want to, and record just by headphones, etc...

The new model is the MESA/Boogie Express 5:25... about the same as above, but with two banks of knobs, and a couple other bells and whsitles... also a ten-inch model

hey we can mic yer amp man

5 sure 58s

some misc mics

and a set of i think 6 drum mics

I was doing my best to follow this thread............Now I'm lost noway
