Topic: Sammy Hagar vs. David Lee Roth...... | |
---|---|
Sammy by far was the best frontman for Van Halen!!! Any thoughts on these two gentlemen??? I know at least Sammy doesn't forget his words after a certain time. My buddy when to see David Lee Roth and a lot of songs he couldn't even remember all the way through!!! What's up with that????

I never liked Sammy Hagar... ruined Van Halen for me...
I've heard that about Roth, forgetting lyrics... that is inexcusable for a professional singer making bah-zillions of dollars.. I still like the David Lee Roth era Van Halen much better Sammy is too much of a screeching banshee for me... not that DLR doesn't know how to scream like a girl... LOL |

Here's the embarrassing Eddie at the 2007 NAMM show... sounds like a 15 year old noodler at Guitar Center... looks blitzed off his a$$...
Leaves his cigarette in the headstock of the guitar when he hangs it up... oops... guess the vodka makes you do funny stuff at 50... LOL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIr-WBZT1MI NOISE.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 (what happened to lyrical, musical Eddie?) |

I was not a fan of Van "Hagar"
The 1984 tour with David Lee Roth was awesome! That was Van Halen to me ... |

Sammy sounded better when he was with Montrose and out on his own. Don`t get me wrong, Sammy was great with Van Hagar. I just liked his work with Montrose and his solo material better.
David Lee Roth is David Lee Roth. Take it from there. |

I think that Sammy was/is the best thing that could have ever happened to the group. His voice really accented them and they really accented his voice. A match made in heaven, in my opinion.
David lee Roth was good, but Sammy is better. |

It's got to be "Diamond Dave" His antics on stage
started the whole Hair Band movement. Running up the Marshall stacks and doing flips. The man could sing, (I'll put a BUT in here now), Thats when he wasn't too stoned or drunk to remember the words. I saw Van Halen years ago w/ The Stones at the Orange Bowl in FL. Great concert. Dave sang the same verse from Icecream Man 3 times before he got back on track. He almost fell down laughing when he finally realized it. On the other hand, when he hit the Stage back then, no less than 30 girls near the front row took their tops off. Gotta hand it to him. Sammy just doesn't evoke that reaction. |

D.L. Roth did his best work as frontman for Van Halen. His solo stuff was fine, but he belongs at center stage with that band.
Sam Hagar did great with Montrose, and his solo stuff was always excellent. However, I never felt he was the right fit for being the frontman for Van Halen. Gary Cherone belongs with Extreme. There's not even an argument there. Dumping Michael Anthony for Wolfie?? Gimme a break! I'll take Van Halen over Van Hagar any day. |

both where great for van halen its worked for them.the problem was that people want it the way the like not what works for the band.but when you think about it they kept rocking and making hits regardless who was the front man and they came out with good songs that worked for the era they where conecting to.
