Yes, I have been under stress, and I also just recently slowed down on my alcohol intake. I'm thinking that is what is causing it. Rather than "passing out" with a head full of booze, my mind is more aware. Makes sense.

Yes this makes complete sense. You are dead on balls accurate. When you are not routinely passing out (which is not actual sleep) then your brain is free to dream and experience REM state which it requires for proper recuperative sleep. Circuits in the brain become activated during REM sleep, which causes areas of the limbic system involved in emotions, sensations, and memories, including the amygdala and hippocampus, to also be stimulated.

Ever wonder why stage 4 alcoholics will begin to have hallucinations while they are awake? Its because they repeatedly pass out instead of actually reaching the necessary state of dreaming which is indispensable for the brain. If you do not allow your body to reach REM state while you are asleep, it will force you into this stage while you are awake, thus alcoholics are dreaming while they are seemingly awake and functioning.

So you need to cut back on the drinking like you are doing. Let yourself catch up on sleep and dreaming. The vividness of the dreams will dissipate on their own. You should stop drinking all together but thats not my call to make and is your decision to avoid alcoholism if you have those traits and tendencies.

To answer the dead friends/relatives question, they are just there in the background, but no interaction with them.......yet. Should I be worried if they start talking to me?

No, its nothing to worry about. Im not saying that I necessarily believe that dead relatives or friends can impart information to living people through dreams. Im just mentioning that it is a culturally accepted phenomena amongst certain ethnic groups through out the world. This means they take it very seriously and understand it to be true.

You should try putting the note pad by your bed and seeing if you can write down anything you remember from these dreams including who you are seeing, what they might be doing and if they end up speaking at some point. If you are like me, you have a hard time remembering dreams however.

Is there some herbal remedy I can use to make my dreams a little less intense?

Yes there are always medications you can go on to help with these things such as Ambien and also health food store remedies that will relieve stress. However, since I know this is due to your cutting back on alcohol consumption, I would allow your body to ride it out because you need to dream now since you have repressed this function by the alcohol abuse. So taking medications would only stifle it again and you dont want to do that now.

Your body needs to catch up on dreams.

If it becomes a problem and the vivid depictions become frightening nightmares that are unbearable, then you might require medicinal help.Give it a couple months but they should becomes less and less intense and more like how your dreams were before you drank. Good luck.

Last night, I dreamed I was walking across this wide sky fortress thingie. I stood on a fragment of debris not entirely attached to the fortress and the wind picked it up (and me) and I started to fly away.sick

Not the kind of dream I hope comes back.

When I was using that Chantix smokng cessation drug I was having some very awful, vivid nightmares. I had a dream that I came into my house one evening and there was blood smeared on the walls and I started to look around and there were body parts all over the floor like it was a crime scene.

flowerforyou For almost two years I repeatedly had dreams about falling over a cliff.:smile:Sometimes I would be in a vehicle (always with someone else driving) and they would drive over the edge (because they were speeding and /or driving recklessly)or sometimes I would be walking along the edge and someone would push me over from behind,or I would be trying to help someone that was hanging onto the edge and they would (accidently) pull me over.:smile:I would always wake up before hitting the ground, but I just gotta say that it was terrifying.scaredIt was getting to be a real problem for me.:smile:I am so glad that the dreams finally stopped over a year ago.drinks

Was something going on in your life that was causing a lot of stress in that period? That can be one interpretation of "falling dreams" A fear of failure.

flowerforyouI think it was a "fear of failure" type dream.Yeah, that sounds about right.flowerforyouIt really sucked too because I was trying everything I could to get those damned dreams to stop.grumbleI tried taking sleeping medications, and trying to sleep in different places (in the house)and all kinds of other home remedies that people were telling me about but nothing worked.grumbleI thought I was gonna go crazy.scaredBut like I said, thankfully it stopped.:thumbsup:Its still kinda bothers me just to think about those damned dreams.shades

I may be in the minority here, but I actually welcome the occasional nightmare, as long as it's not too warped...I just wake up, realize it was a dream within a second or two, say cool, and then go back to sleep.

You're right though, those really nasty recurring dreams can be harsh.

I agree. Dreaming is normal and night mares are necessary on occasion. Its just when they become debilitating or cause you to not be able to sleep at all which can be a problem. Thats usually a sign that something else is going on either emotionally or physically that requires some closer evaluation.

I love my lucid dreams....they are always so calm and peaceful....I always wake up in the best of moods. Nothing quite as cool as spending the night floating around......

Dreams are great, mine are so real it's hard to describe. I try to go back to sleep often to extend my dreams because they are the best escape from this thing we call reality a can get. It seems as thoiugh in ny dreams there is no B.S. just the actuall stuff that is going on. No ones self impossed agression to make people bow down to their way of thinking or living so that they can get by without having to work for a living. I hat e as_ _ _ _ _s who have jobs where all they do is not much physical labor. And they are never in my dreams.

Haha! I'm not a pill popper.

Seriously. Anybody have any insight on this? It's really freaking me out.

I've done some research online. Just looking for other peoples comments.

It is possible that DMT and THE PINEAL GLAND are at the root of these dreams/visions. Do a search.

THE PINEAL GLAND: ITS PHYSIOLOGY AND INFLUENCE ON SHAMANIC STATES

http://www.bridgeofstars.co.uk/pineal-gland.htm

The pineal gland is a cone-shaped pea that sits on the roof of the 3rd ventricle of the brain, directly behind the root of the nose (3rd eye chakra) floating in a small lake of cerebrospinal fluid. It is our body's biological clock and has been called a window of the brain because, as with all mid-line structures bordering the 3rd and 4th ventricles of the brain, it doesn't have a blood-brain barrier. Instead it relies on a constant supply of blood via, considering its miniscule size, a particularly rich vascular network. It was considered for many years to be as redundant as our appendix but this theory is brought sharply into question because, in our body's infinite wisdom, the pineal gland has been supplied with the best blood, oxygen and nutrient mix available other than that received by our kidneys! It acts as a receiving mechanism capable of monitoring electro-magnetic fields and helping align bodies in space. With its central hormone, MELATONIN, the pineal not only regulates sleep/ wake cycles and the aging process, but also appears to act as the Mistress Gland (sofia)* orchestrating the body's entire endocrine system and thus, energetically speaking, the chakra system. I believe it is also responsible for shamanic states, visions, kundalini e.t.c.

It very well could be that all of the mind altering drugs I've done over the years has opened my third eye.

Thanks Jeanniebean! That was awesome.

Ugh, a couple nights ago I dreamed that I was standing on the top of the elementary school where I spent my formative years. I had with me two bikes, bikes which apparently had names. One was named my full name (which I loathe, cannot even bring myself to type it). I don't remember the name of the other bike, but it was the preferred bike.

Anyway, I had to escape from this gang of Nazi-women. They were chasing me around town, and I get the vague impression they were telling me things I didn't want to hear (don't recall what). Although it would have been easier to get on my preferred bike and ride it, I for some reason felt compelled to drag the bike I didn't like around while riding the bike I did like.

I had to drag both bikes down a flight of stairs to the ground, and the Nazi women saw me and started chasing me. Then I was biking around the inside of the grocery store I shop at, and the leader of the nazi women had her mouth in my ear and was still telling me things I did not want to hear. I drove on aimlessly in a vain attempt to escape her. It felt like I could escape if I abandoned the bike I didn't like. But I could not bring myself to do this. Then I woke up.

In another dream I had, I was living at my parents'. We were getting ready to go to bed, and I needed to find a place to sleep. Weirdly, my middle-aged mother was pregnant. Therefore, I reasoned that she would build a bed to sleep alongside my dad in the living room (in reality, they haven't slept in the same bed since the '80s).

At first, I felt hopeless at the prospect of building my own bed (which it felt perfectly natural to do at the same time). I went to the room that my mother sleeps in reality, and it proved easier than I thought. I built the bed out of legos, although it looked like a normal bed when it was built, not at all like a lego bed. I laid down in my new bed, and looked at the far wall.

On the wall, I saw this enormous potato beetle, about 10 times the size of a regular one, crawl up the wall and onto the ceiling. Then I saw these two craneflies fly in through the window. They chased the potato beetle across the ceiling and seemed to be trying to eat it, before abruptly losing interest. I watched this occur in complete fascination, and I think I sympathized with the beetle. Then I woke up.

The image of insects or spiders in a conflict of this manner is a semi-regular one in my dreams.

I had dream once about a dude who figured out what it would take to out-wit the ATF and the FBI. About 5 years later I met a guy who was trying to do exactly that. He was planning to do a crime. Being totally unsuspecting of me, he had confided in me some of his plans. I of course phoned the local police as well as the FBI about his intentions. As soon as I made mention of the dream I had many years earlier, I got the impression that they (the FBI agents) kinda thought I was nuts. About five years later this guy was able to do his crime. He did get caught, but only because of some of the people he had bragged to previously. Had they not come forward he would have never come to justice. Try as I did to circumvent this crime because of this dream of these events, I was unable to change the future. This is a true story, but I will have to decline to talk about the particulars. The message I wish to convey here is that as smart or as knowledgeable as we may be, if someone truly wants do do something bad or good, sooner or later they will figure out a way to do it. So don't waste you breath or words trying to convince someone else about the origins of man. There is plenty of knowledge out there for them to study and research. And if we can Dream a little, we might actually find the answere within. In the end the outcome will be the same. Learn to give thanks for the pleasures you are given, dreams included. But no matter how vivid they are, they should be looked at as though they are dreams. No one else can truely appreciate your dreams but you!

being able to lucid dream at will is considered "nirvana" in buddism, if you can lucid dream dont fear it or blow it off, it is probably the most important thing to learn about in your life, your pineal gland is your third eye, pry it open
most people think dreams are an interpretation of life, but thats backwards, life is just the interpretations of the reality of dreams
