Topic: How long before you met in person? | |
---|---|
For any of you who have met people off the internet, how long did you spend talking online and on the phone before meeting in person? When you met in person was it what you had expected or hoped for? I'd looove some opinions on the topic.

For the first time ever I am going to meet a guy I met on here. I will be meeting him Saturday Nov 22nd
I just met him online 2 days ago and we webcammed briefly and then talked on the phone. He only lives 5 miles away so it seemed silly to keep exchanging messages and not just meet up. We are meeting for Diet Dr. Pepper and doughnuts. My opinion on how long you should wait to meet depends on the circumstances. If you can meet quick then do it. Why exchange messages for months...then meet....then find out in 5 minutes you are not interested. Many girls don't really know how much they will click with a guy until they meet him. My opinion anyways. I'll let you know how it turns out. He seems cool but I am picky. |

I'm in South Carolina and he's in Washington state. Terrible! |

exchanged emails with a girl from this site for a little over a week and then made a date to meet in a week. We talked on the phone everyday until we met. She lives a little over an hour away. The date went very well and we are planning a second date for later this week.

Best wishes to you on that. My friend is way too far away from me. I'm in South Carolina and he's in Washington state. Terrible! thx for the wishes. He is moving to Pittsburgh in six months for a job transfer. If the date works out we will have six months to see how things go. You're only 3000 miles away from each other. What's the problem? lol. Wow that is far. |

I'd looove some opinions on the topic. Variable responses. From one week after online "Helllllllloo there!" to meeting...or as long as one month after moving from online/email/IM/webcam/phone to meeting. Expected? Everyone is MORE than expected. It's like getting the butterfly out of the online cocoon and seeing the wings spread. You know? |

I havent met anyone in person on this particular site yet.
I met a few from Yahoo personals. Email first, IM chat, phone, and eventually meet in person. This usually took anywhere from 2-3 days. I got taken to the cleaners. They all got free sushi dinners on me, and left right after, never talking to me again. The one I did end up hanging out with turned out to be a gold digger. I'm gonna have to be more cautious this time around. |

I agree that I don't like to drag it out too long. Of course you need to have a few phone conversations before hand, but I don't want to spend weeks or months idealizing someone in my head and then meet and have absolutely no connection.
Plus I always make sure to get their full name so I can check them out on the Megan's Law website. |

My boyfriend and I talked for 3 months before we met in person. Primarily it was due to his work schedule which is very busy in the summer. I think talking that long was a good thing. Our trips just keep getting better and better.

It depends on which context you're speaking of. The first time I met any FRIENDS from the internet took about 8 months. The first time I met a potential partner took about a year and a half, although we had only been passing friends during that time, and the meeting of each other wasn't even planned, it just turned out that way.
I have never thought of sites such as this as simply for "dating", period, dot, end of conversation. There are too many people who are misled to believe that. Sites like these are for social interaction. If a person can't be a friend that you get to know first, how in God's name would they expect them to be a potential date? You can't just look at a picture or a profile and say "Hey, I want to date you!" "Oh, gee, okay." You wouldn't (or SHOULDN'T) do that in the real world, so why would you do it online? |

2 months almost to the day when I meet Andy in person for the first time.
If it were local I'd say about a week in a public place. I don't waste that kind of time, if it's there it will be there, if it's not, it won't no matter how long you talk. |
