I'm coming to the conclusion that trying to squelch the hate here is a complete waste of my time.

I'm sorry, t22! I just hate excuses for bad behavior. But, I love being called a loonie libber! That's so cute! Thanks, Quick!

well as much as i do not want to say this

it is only fair

clergy are not perfect (supposedly) just forgiven

but why is it ok to some that a clergy member have a gay relations

but anyone else that does it is a spoiled brat

insert head scratching emoticon here

Because Pastors are perfect creatures and are ALWAYS right. If they weren't, Hell, then maybe some of the things they TEACH wouldn't be perfect and right. Then where would people be? Forced to think for themselves? OH NO EGADS NEVER!

Just another Biggot who is so scared when he looks in the mirror. He has to demonize exactly what he sees in himself.

Ted Haggard has never had enough influence in my life to warrant my viewing him as anything more than a man who, through arrogance---fell. A lot of men have fallen--though I generally reserve wishing they'll go to hell for offenses of a far great nature than being pious and then being human.

no greater pleasure for me than to throw hell stones at those who spout dogma and prosecute sin from glass towers.

Hate and name calling seems to come consistently from some posters here.

Please don't stop.

Every time I see it I am compelled to work for justice and to fight the good fight.

My karma just ran over your dogma.

The non-Christian's favorite Jesus quote "Judge not". That is thrown into the face of any Christian who makes a statement on morality, but for some reason those who are so quick to quote or loath to practice.

Ted Haggard might be lying, I don't know.

Ted Haggard might be going to hell, I don't know.

What I do know is that it is better for me to give him the benefit of the doubt on this matter, since it isn't important to me, rather than to judge him harshly.

If you are going to his church, then it's in your spiritual best interest to decide if you believe him or not. If you aren't a member of his church, then the best thing you can do is put it out of your mind.

Thanks for that advise. However, I must point out that fear of judgement is one of the things that keeps us from doing many things that we should not do. And, if this kind of behavior is ignored, it will likely repeat itself, if not with him, then someone else. We can learn from this that no one should have that kind of power over others and that no one is above reproach.
I don't think he has a church anymore. If I'm not mistaken, he was just a visiting preacher and the media was alerted (go figure). My personal problem with him is not that he likes sex with men, but the deception he has perpetrated and the fact that he has still not accepted responsibility. It's also very scary that there are people who don't see that.
But, rest your mind that I for one will not loose one minutes sleep over this man.

That was put beautifully and perfectly. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Those who do not condem bad behavior are forced to see it multiply into their own lives, the lives of their children and the lives of their grandchildren.

I said nothing about ignore, did I? I said that we shouldn't be judging the man. How do you know what drove him to have sex with a man? Can you say for certain that it wasn't because of him being molested as a child? Why is it that psychologists warn that victims of abuse are likely to do drugs and repeat the abuse? Are they lying too?

What harm does it do to anyone outside of his congregation and family if we all choose to ignore this? His congregation and family are much closer to him and could maybe make a better judgment call on if he's lying or not. For my part, I don't approve of his behavior in the least. But if his personal demons drove him to this behavior, then I feel sorry for him and wish him a full recovery and hope that his family and friends are able to give him the support he needs while they get the support they need.
