i love natural photography. the more natural the photo the more i smile.

photoshop isn't really an option for me

the most i'd ever do to my pictures are cropping, b&w or sepia or maybe play with the color a bit to bring it to a more natural look if the original picture is too washed out or dark.

Yea I never photoshopped b4..I mean what is the point? If the pic ends up looking nothing like me..I may as well put a pic of Angelina Jolie up there..and say that is me.
I just use webcam and a 99 dollar digi cam to take my pics..

By using photoshop, I don't mean stick your head on Angelina Jolie's body, or warp your picture to make you look skinnier or something, you'd only be fooling yourself in the long run. Use it to make your pictures look natural.
A picture straight off the camera is not reality or natural looking at all. Cameras, especially digicams, can only capture a fraction of the dynamic range you can see with your eyes. Photoshop is a very powerful picture editing program but can be a bit intimidating at first.

Here are my photoshop tips:

1 - Dynamic range: To edit the brightness/contrast of your pic, use the 'Levels' tool rather than the brightness/contrast one. Much more powerful & gives better results. I like to use the shadow/highlights tool in moderation also.

2 - Color: I do most of my color fixing using hue/saturation rather than color balance. You can adjust the hue/saturation for specific colors & it does the job well. I also use the selective color tool to fine tune.

3 - Retouching: Guys don't need it much since they can get away looking a bit ruggid. For smoothing out complection, a third party photoshop plugin called Neat Image works wonders. To remove moles/acne, learn how to use the clone stamp tool. You can also isolate the important facial features & add gaugasian blur to the rest of the pic. Draws your attention to the face & looks pretty cool.

4 - Sharpening: If the pic needs it, add some sharpening. Do this last.

Their newest version, according to Adobe's website, has it at 699. Friggin expensive! They have a much cheaper, scaled down version called Photoshop elements for round 100. You can download a trial version of either from their site.

Right on! I suck at photography but am descent with art...I want better close range resolution...all my work is done in .003 mm dots...how do I get highly detailed resolution on lines, more often than not..finer than human hair?

Get the highest resolution camera you can afford & use a tripod. Make sure it's evenly lit, don't use flash if you can help it.

Okay, I finally understand what you're getting at. If you're wanting to show off the .003 mm dots you're using, you need a macro lens.
Probably need a camera with interchangeable lenses for that.

Some cameras have a macro mode. May or may not get you close enough for what you're after though.

I just can't do straight lines...I shake my way through pix...oddly enough...they seem to pan out.

How large are your pics? Could you use a scanner on them? That may get you closer than your camera can.

Stupidly enough...you are probably right on target....(I am an idiot)...much of my work would scan...but, 1/2 of it would be too big but....the scanner would definitely help...it ain't easy being a cro-mag.
