Taking profile pictures is not rocket science.

Profile pictures do not have to totally awesome but weed out the ones that don't focus on the person you are trying to show; YOURSELF.

You don't have to buy jazzy programs or great technical skills but a lot of time if you enlarge, center, and trim a photo before you scan it in you can improve the quality of your pictures.

It is not hard to find a buddy to get to polish your pictures, or take a continueing education class, or going to the public library and check out some books to improve your skills. Great opportunity to share with someone creative.

A clear, engageing photo is the door to your profile. If it is dark, hard to see, and something animated you are preaching to the converted of your friends in forums not introduceing yourself to anyone new. You get 3 to 5 seconds to connect visually before they start reading your post.

You do not need expensive camera's but you do need a lot of pictures so my suggestion is to buy or borrow a digital camera or buy a couple of 32 count high speed film throw aways and make a list of pictures to get. Then over a month take various pictures when you are fresh and well rested in various different favorite outfits. Preverably not underwear and at least one dress upped but things YOU like not what your Ex bought you.

What you want is photo's that show;
YOU (smileing);
your assets (the intangiable ones),
your interests ( you know sex is eventually a given so skip the come hither shots they almost always look cheezy),
and a little about your past.

This also does not mean your address, license plate, your employer, or the faces of your children, or expensive valuables unless you want to be robbed. It doesn't mean your abs, your tongue, your sunglasses, or something that you wear that makes you look like you are putting 10 lbs. in a 5 lb. sack. If you don't speak sign language forget the hand gestures. If you want people to think you are bald be sure and wear a hat. Ladies just because you spend a boat load of money on your nails keep your hands out or your face in photo's it usually distorts your porportions. Take some full length shots. Make the majority of the shots at various angles that don't look dead on mug shots. DO NOT hold the camera yourself. GOOD LUCK

I agree. You don't need a gizzilla-pixel camera for profile pics since the largest you can post is a whopping 275 x 275px. Lighting IS important but of course, content is #1. If you take a bunch of pictures in a variety of situations, places, different lighting, your bound to come up with some good ones. Just weed out the ones you don't like. Editing does help but it can't make a bad picture good. It CAN take a good picture and make it great though!

You could "photoshop" yourself up, but probably ought to be honest about it from the get go. Just take a bunch of pics & pick the best of em
