I thought you might actually be giving tips. Instead, you're just pointing out the obvious.

No, I wasn't asking for tips. I just thought that this thread was about that. I'm into photography as well.

No, I wasn't asking for tips. I just thought that this thread was about that. I'm into photography as well.

Well here's some portrait lighting tips anyway.

1 - Don't use on camera flash; that is unless you want a flat, two dimensional image with pasty highlights & no shadows. Think of it this way; if you were wanting to draw a three dimensional looking sphere, would you just draw a circle & be done with it? No, you'd give it shadows & highlights and have a smooth gradient between.

2 - You need lots of light; digicams especially need lots of light to give a clean, noise & artifact free image. Your lightbulbs aren't up to the task either. Go outside & use the sunlight. Best light source available for portraits.

3 - Use sidelighting. This will give you a three dimensional portrait with shadows & highlights. Toplighting looks horrible & gives raccoon eyes. Take your pictures outside during dusk or dawn for best lighting & cloudy days are great for portraits since they give you soft lighting. Bright clear sunny days are NOT good for portraits. Too much contrast. If it is sunny, take the pics in the shade.

4 - The most important aspect in portraits is of course the subject. Smile. Experiment to find the best angles too.

Hope that helps some of you all. happy

Yea I definitely always get the lighting wrong..thats why my hair looks orange and my eyes look brown on some pics..
Hair is blonde and eyes are blue..:P..just hard to tell. I look at my pics..and on some I look so different than others..its weird cuz I usually take most of them the same day...lighting is everything.
