I can field that one. My ex husband is half white, half Mexican. He's officially Mexican to the census.

Apparently white is like vanilla... if anything else is in it, it's not white anymore.

Lynann, LOVE it!!!! Bravo! I don't know... I think in years to come we're gonna have a harder and harder time classifying anyone under one huge umbrella.

Hell, we're American right? That'll work for me! drinker

thank you deardrinker

The same question can be asked of Tiger Woods, who defines himself as "Cablanasian" in an homage to his multi-ethnicity.

Calling Obama black just helps us spin ourselves to the world media. To me it doesn't matter at all. All I had to do was hear his speech and I'm okay with whatever he is.

The man has got some big ole' cajones. And that is exactly what we need. Someone comfy enough in his own skin to be humble on the world stage ... the exact antithesis of what we have now.

I agree need 'cojones' to turn things around CB.

But curiosity got the best of me, why do people only see what is in front of them and not beyond?

Anyway it's Monday - that's as good of an excuse as any flowerforyou

People like to quantify things to make them simple. Complex thinkers, like you Frannie, know that the world is more ecru/grey than it is black/brown/white.

Sorry I misspelled cojones - my bad. I'll get a cuban sandwich at the Silver Ring in Ybor City tomorrow to repent. flowerforyou CUBAN sammies rock! Extra pickles please.

 That information is not historically accurate. These were rumors started in the days before television in order to slander a political opponent.

Imo, he's considered our first African-American president because he looks African-American. His looks probably helped too. I doubt he would have been elected if he looked like Mike Tyson. We're a very shallow society and looks count. How else is Sarah Palin explained?
