Topic: Have you noticed? | |

You ever see posts where people type out their responses as if they were sending a text message? Or do you catch yourself doing it on occasion?
Some aren't so bad, but when you get an entire paragraph full of the shortcuts, for me it makes it hard to read and drives me nuts. Do you think because they text message so much, that they forget they have access to be able to type out the whole word and have easy access to punctuation marks? Or do you think they just don't want to take the time to type it all out? |

i don't get it either. I also feel really old when i have to ask people what some shorthand means.

I don't even type that way in texts. I guess I'm one of the few who actually spells out words all the time.

I don't even type that way in texts. I guess I'm one of the few who actually spells out words all the time. Me neither... but I have a qwerty keyboard on my blackberry, lol. I do believe that if I had to type texts on a regular phone I'd probably use a few more myself.... having to hit a key 3 times to get a single letter would wear me down. |

I have a regular phone. No keyboard on my phone. Still, it isn't difficult at all to type out full words.

My goodness! You're one of those!
A group of us introduced a 30+ year old woman to texting on her phone a few weeks ago. She had never texted before. And you'd have thought we gave her crack. She wouldn't put the phone down the rest of the night! |

Well i use shortcut language on here, and i cant see me changin anytime soon, i use 'u' and 'r' and i dont see the prob with it.
Its not that i cant write well, its a conscious choice i make to make me write summit faster. English is 1 of my stronger subjects, and at work, i write well, but im not at work or school when i log on here, so i write in shortcut for speed (especially on here where topics move so fast!) Sorry if my language annoys ppl, but i think theres more things to worry about online. |

I have no kids so have no idea what any of that means, except lol I've texted the words "CALL ME!" in reponse to text messages but thats about it. Too tedious.

I'm even a stickler for grammar in my text messaging. i'm the same. i'd rather send two texts and write everything out completely i just find that it takes longer, and requires more effort on my part, to actually sound out a word and think of how i can shorten it, than it does to just type it out in longhand. most of the time, when i see a post that is all shorthand, i tend to skip it over because it is just difficult for me to follow. i make exceptions for certain posters, however, because i know that what they have to say is of substance and that i'll want to read it. hi lisa!! |

I'm even a stickler for grammar in my text messaging. Bad grammar, I can live with. But I am a spelling dom. |
