Right, and by pretty big margins....maybe the question was meant for the 2000 election....you know the one when Gore won the popular vote, and Florida, before the Supreme Court took it back......a little late to complain now, thoughhappy

The electoral college votes were bought by the highest bidder...the voters in that statelaugh Most states require their EC voters to vote for whomever won the popular vote. In the early days of the US, when vote buying was common and fraud was rampant in elections, the EC voters were supposedly more level headed and intelligent than the normal voter. As it currently operates, it kind of gives smaller states a voice..lol...take Wyoming...more voters in half the precincts back east than in the entire state. Our three votes at least give us some modicum of value, where our 100k popular votes are totally insignificant in the overall popular vote

The popular vote is what gives all the masses that warm and fuzzy feeling because they voted...

It's supposed to keep heavily populated states from deciding who wins. California and New York are two examples.

Because the Presidential election is only apart of it.You also vote for Congressman, senators, governors and referendums for your state.

how would that help. the state i live in is less populated than new york or california. but they get 31 and 55 electorial votes. my state get 5.

AND i wasn't complaining. i was just saying that the process by which we elect officials is bull-**** and i was backing up my statement.

Actually, since 1900 the only time that a Presidential win hasn't included the win of both the electoral votes and the popular vote was in the year 2000 when GWB got 50,456,002 to Al Gore's 50,999,897.

So, it's been done in every Presidential race since 1900 with the exception of one race.

there is nothing in the Constitution about a popular vote for President. All it says is that the states will select electors in a manner of their choosing

the original intent was to keep the population centers from controlling every election

and secondarily, the founding fathers didnt believe the common people had enough knowledge to be trusted with selecting the President.

Exactly, because in that time there were not enough means to allow common people to know much about who was running for President, that is the whole reason for the electoral.

The states would form groups, the groups would find the information about the President, then vote for the President they thought was best. The common people would vote for the group that they thought would best represent them.

Now, we can find all of this information out, but it has been this way and has never been changed.
